Absolutely Hilarious! As an American i never heard of Stanley Baxter. But what a talent! To play those characters like that was amazing. He had them all down pat. They must have used the real set from the show too. Because it's excitedly spot on. My favorite was her ladyship, "If you think she's a treasure, i suggest you bury her in the garden"! LOL, too funny!!!
As well as playing 6 characters ,who interact with each other, what amazes me is how well its seamlessly put together. It took me awhile to get the joke of the asking for fairy cakes and being given rock-Hudson.
People who like upsters downstairs can you have a look at my show DAYS GONE BYE it is very mute like upsters downsters please lever a comment on if you think it is good or not
Stanley Baxter is surely one of the greatest comic geniuses of our time. I had not seen this for at least 30 years yet it still makes me cry with laughter. I believe his extravagant skits became too expensive to produce on TV in the end which is a crime considering the rubbish we are subjected to these days. Absolutely priceless and way ahead of his time! Love you Stanley.
35 years old. It was an incredible achievement considering the technology they had at the time. They were barely able to edit videotape in those days.
Mr Baxter wouldn't get on TV nowadays - he has TALENT. His 'Annals of Scotland Yard' has the greatest line said by an usherette to a policeman. I have Dennis Bergkamp's autoggraph - I only want Stanley Baxter's now. Both true 'genius'.
Absolutely brilliant. I've got the whole series of "Upstairs Downstairs" on video and it's so close to the real thing. Stanley Baxter is phenomenol. His Dame Edith Evans and Sir John Guilgud are astoundingly real.
Stanley's not dead yet! His series was cancelled the BBC and Thames due to the high production costs. He's currently starring in a radio play on Radio 4 this week.
A wonderful parody - as an UpDown' enthusiast I've always liked it! Mr Baxter captured Rose's prissiness well. The Upstairs characters don't work quite as well however.
I think he is excellent. I was stood next to him at a bus stop in Hampstead on Sunday (4th Feb) he was a lot smaller than I thought. He kept smiling at my friends little girl. Very funny man. Long live Stanley!
lovely 'take' on Sir John Geilgud!!

I liked the Cicely Courtneidge joke that she would never last. She was active in theater, film and television for what? 40 years? More?
