motion gaming actually takes a lot of testing and balancing. Best graphics hardly even qualifies as an award; it pretty much ensures whatever game is shortest in length wins cause they have more capacity to flesh out areas you visit
graphics are hard to improve and it is one of the most costly aspects of game development. it involves augmenting, altering and working with the most complex engines on the market. if great graphics were easy, every developer would have killzone, uncharted, and gears of war graphics.
making a game function on a simple, practically last gen engine is not a difficult task compared to if the same thing was tried on a current gen one.

Even with skyrim, i played the game i was impressed by the graphics, but i was not impressed by originality. With games like zelda ss, mario the developers are brainstorming more and then they code it, whereas for games like uncharted they know already how the game is going to look and play and then they code.

I think everyone knew that Skyrim was going to win. It's just much more accessible to the general public. Both are damn fine games, but Zelda is an exclusive on a dying, gamer-scorn system. Not enough people played it to beat a multiconsole and PC game like Skyrim.
