  • Regarding the line "It's time to write a song about Zanzibar," 15 years after this first aired, Jerry did just that.

  • Love it!

  • We played this one night at a bar gig late in the set. Much longer solo section of course. People loved it. Doubt they heard the lyrics though. Probably thought it was just some hard blues song.

  • i have a folder on my pc name Sesame Street, thank you for giving ma another great one to add to the collection.

  • "It's time to write a song about Zanzibar."

If you're aware of Jerry Nelson's Truro Daydreams album, this line seems a little Hilarious In Hindsight.

  • Floyd Pepper Should Sing This Song!!!!!

  • @cstoczyn This is Floyd Pepper, just with shades, green and with a beard, if they used the lavender guitarist then it'd really be Floyd Pepper

  • @muppetlover16 But He's Part Of The Muppets!

  • @cstoczyn OIC, but he has the same hipster voice like Floyd

  • @muppetlover16 Yeah

  • @cstoczyn Long Live Jerry Nelson!

  • @muppetlover16 GO OVER THE TOP!!!!

  • ZZZZZZZZ.......

  • omg this song could really be from zz top. i like it.

  • @Felashix Long Live ZZ Top!

  • Intro sounds like Don't Bring Me Down

  • @JohnnyD33re

I know right? When I heard it in Super 8, I was like "ZZ BLUES!"

  • I think I remember this... Man it's been so long since I watched Sesame Street

  • this song and count it higher- my two favorite sesame street songs

  • this is really cool

    the berds are perfect

  • LL cool j, zz top, bb king, all made great appearances on sesame street.

  • OMG BIG BIRD :)))))))))))

  • Isn't zero translated into zed? I don't think it's "z".

  • @SapphireSphere I'm not sure it's a parody of any specific song as much as a parody of the band and their music in general.

@joeywormer - ZZ Top didn't write it. It was written by Christopher Cerf (music) and Sarah Durkee (lyrics)

  • I still couldn't believe that ZZ Top wrote this song.

  • The letta Z. It's cawled "UHZEE, ZEE " BWUES.

  • I remember how this got my attention on Sesame Street in 1993-94 as I watched with my 6 year old. --- over the TOP singing ZZ blues ;-)

  • No, seriously, ZZ Top should really cover this.

  • This is one of my favourites

  • lol i showed this to my 1 year old niece and she started dancing

  • is this group named after ZZ Top

  • even the double-stops in the guitar part, WOW!!

  • Good attention to detail... they remembered not to give the drummer a beard

  • love this show!!!!

  • very trippy video!

  • ZZ blues from On a clear day I can Z forever advalabe on US snooze records

  • Got the zz-blues?

Go back in time and slug the Germanic tribes who settled in England and formed the English language.

  • For those of you who are wondering what "Zanzibar" is, it's an island off the coast of Tanzania.

  • Of course it's ZZ Top~ Sesame Street was brilliant in their time...my sisters and I loved having this show for our young kids to watch...what was really cool is all the stuff that only the adults would catch!

What a great tribute to ZZ Top, too...lmao!

  • I love that the name of the album is "On a Clear Day I Can Z Forever".

  • these guys make ZZ TOP run for their money!!! lol

  • Who is that in the picture on-top of The Count's TV? O_o

  • Joe Raposo

  • Lmao! I haven't seen this since Elmo was a new character, Silverhawks was on after school and MTV showed re-runs of The Monkees.

  • Or Zed Zed Blues, depending on where you're from. :)

  • Its ZZ Top, Coz... 2 guys with Beards, Lead singer plays guitar, The drummer got white hair with a mustash.. thats zz top.. :O <3

  • The pupeteers IMHO had to have at least some knowledge of musical instruments. Love how the bass player really thumps in rhythm, stops correctly when the music stops, and the chords and solo playing by the guitarist look very nice. A less detail-observant crew would just had strummed both instruments without any musical resemblance. This show was simply awesome and educational.

  • This is so great. I smile when I hear it. It made me smile when I first heard it 15 or so years ago.

  • HAhahhaha, THats ZZ TOP ! :D

  • this video tripped me out as a kid. so much nostalgia

  • same with me. love it!!

  • Gosh, I'd rather watch this than the crap played on Mtv now a days.

  • I miss this song!

  • MTV Sesame Street style.

  • Double joke here...not only because of the band ZZ Top, but there was also a blues singer named Z.Z. Hill.

  • ANd dusty Hill is in zz!

  • These guys kind of resemble the Country Trio from The Muppet Show, in that they bare some sort of resemblance to their performers. The lead singer looks a bit like Jerry Nelson, in addition to being performed by him. I don't know who puppeteered the other two, but if they had had any lines, I can easily hear Jim Henson doing the second guitarist and Frank Oz doing the drummer.

So this band is called Over the Top. Did ZZ Blues ever do a song called Over the Blues by any chance?

  • omg i love this.

Everybody tells me i'm to old for this shit but i don't care.

  • You should be never too old to listen and watch these! They are family-friendly!

  • Letter Z is the funny one and it is very catchy!!!

  • it's a take-off of the song i thank you

  • i remember being scared of this for some reason.. especially the giant 'z' that comes at you. and i also remember thinking that the zipper was a 'y'. haha

  • I remember this from about 17 yrs ago when my kids were little. Nice video :-)

  • Oh my god. I remember this song from. . . god knows how far back--before I had any idea who ZZ Top were. How in the world I remember the words, I have no idea. This is great!

  • Zoolander?

  • Freaky.

  • The Count doing a momentary Billy-Crystal-as-Fernando Lamas? Abso-LU-tely Mmmarvelous! Billy, Dusty, and Frank probably got a good laugh out of this.

  • it is actually zztop playing :D check wikipedia :P

  • nope

  • LOVE THE ZZ BLUES!!

  • i always laughed at the face big bird made after count told him he looked fabulous

  • muppets ROCKIN' :)

  • Ah! they parodied ZZ Top.

  • yep they did check wikipedia for ZZ Top and wikipedia says ZZ Top made that video.
