I just used the eraser method to take off part of a rim which you said not to do. I didn't even have to watch your video, but by the comments it would have been a waste of time. You did however remind me that I could use the eraser. It took around 10 seconds, and it looks awesome.

I think you'll find using something like the quick mask mode will give you MORE control on a selection than your method. Instead of selecting, deleting, selecting, fixing your selection, deleting and blah-blah-blah, with something like the quick mask mode you can easily select the areas you'd like to remove and simply cover that area with a brush, and upon exiting the quick mask mode, Photoshop will provide you with the selection, easy as one-two-three.

This is not an easy way to cut an object out of the image...

You can use the wand tool ore something like that better...

The wand tool? Is one of the worst ways you can do it, try cutting an image like the one in the example with the wand tool, this is the longest but most accurate way of doing it.
