hey will tell me what you think of cast iron anvils i always hear rants about them but something in the back of my head really tells me that if you can bust a 7 inch chunk of solid cast iron than you must be very abusive of your tools just wondering what your thoughts are because you seem to have allot of common sense and good ideas
The Pritchel hole is also used for hold downs. You can make tools that go through there and us your foot to put pressure on an item giving you a third hand almost, very handy for riveting items together

@epicfantasy I also use a loop of bicycle chain through my hardy hole. On the floor, I use a foot long 3/4" round with a 1" slightly open eye. To hold down hot projects I just step on the round bar. THis chain works for many shapes other than just flats and squares. Necessity is the mother of all invention, Blacksmithing is full of custom invented tools to get your projects done. Remember, It's not supposed to look perfect the first time, Enjoy the process of fine tuning your projects.
yeah just us a rod that fits through the hole and goes through the anvil. weld a dished circular piece of metal to the top of it dish side down and then drill a hole in the end of the rod that goes through the anvil and make an S shaped foot pedal with a hook that fits in the hole. a bicycle chain works too although it doesn't go through the hole.
Wow, man I am interested in history and I´ve got chain mail and helmet and sword which I´ve bought but when I see you I want to do some sword myself!!!
Can you please keep making videos about blacksmithing? You've got me really interested and now I'm even thinking about trying it myself, YOU'VE DOOMED ME!
@NinjaxXtreme I haven't made any swords yet but I will be, most definitely. This weekend I start by making a knife. Or at least start making a knife. Will be a vid.
I'm saying there's little point in trying to line it up to punch a hole through that tiny hole when you could just as easily do it over the big square one and not worry about denting the rest of the metal.
@DeathlyCrunch There is more surface deformation when punching over a larger diameter hole. Hardie holes range from 7/8" to 1 1/2" square. Pritchel holes are generally 5/8" and smaller. Thin stock will tend to buckle when punched over a 1 1/2" hole...

watched a few of ur vids, then i went outside and made myself a knife from an RR spike. :)
my forge aslo looks alot like urs but its from an old steel drum i cut, and i use an old vacum cleaner, in reverse to generate the air flow.

@lysemads Thats cool! Do you have any pics of the knife? Great idea too, I might give it a try.

GOOD INFORMATION!

The hole punch seems kind of redundant when you could just do it over the hardy hole.
