nah, I find some deep water I can jump into then build a landmark (1x1 tower) up to the sky and place torches on it to signify i've explored caves in the area

I know this video is old, but you do know rapid firing doesn't work because enemies become invincible for a few secs after you hit em ;)

omg so many monsters ._. only tried this once before, but was just in a part of the cave, here they are everywhere, i didnt have a diamond sword, and only leather armor tho :p found a nice dugneon with spiders aswell, i got a string house now <3 anyways srsly good job surviving down there!
