I love you Margaret. I agree with every thing you say here. I am approaching 60. In the past few weeks, I've heard on TV shows the age of 60 being referenced as some kind of terrible, nasty condition. That age is spoken with such distain as if it is the END. This started to bother me even though I don't believe it. Then, I thought of you. I have told you before, you are my role model. Thank goodness for you Margaret. The end will come when it comes. Ageism and worrying is pointless.
I really like your vlogs so much. Anyway, about aging and dying, I think your generation are more volatile and stronger than the younger ones. Maybe because people back then had to get through tough times and they had to be creative in order to survive.
You are only as old as you feel anyway. :)
You are blessed of having the seen the world at 80 and counting. I think you will outlive us all. :)
I'm 25 and now people are saying that the world will end in 2012.
Keep on doing whatever you are doing and You will live to see 125 years of age. If you still don’t smoke a pipe- you should start doing it.Good Cavendish will do.
I’ve read about a French woman who died at the age of 125 and who stopped smoking at 119.
You have a long way to go, dear.
By the way have you read the book “Margarettown” by Gabrielle Zevin
yes, the world keeps spinning, we just have to live our time, or loose it because this planet will go on and on...above all we have to be good and leave good things behind
People that are up there in age are always stronger than the younger ones. This is because they have experience, they know what's coming. Trust me my grandma died as a 100% healthy woman at age 107. No need to fear death... You seem to be in great shape for your age too.
Then again my aunt died at 53 when she was eating healthy, working out and... pretty much perfect... Death can come at any time, for any reason, I suppose.
I'm an EMT/former marine though, so I've seen all kinds of things.
Nice hair! It is a pleasure to be so sharp as one ages, isn't it? and making video's no less? I'm 69...and lookiing quite good myself.. Ima stud actually... it comes so naturally now.
I think about death quite a bit. it doesn't frighten me though. I remember having a dream in my mid 20 that i had died and was on my way to heaven. It was so peaceful. I simply rose up out of my body, looked at my body lying there and then thought, "I might as well go on home now" I can't tell you how mad I was when I woke up. LOL!!
I just found your video and found it funny that it was posted on here the day my dad turned 80. He said to me that when he was in his 70's it was just that..in his 70's...but now that he is 80...he is just old LOL I like that he has projects and plans and works non stop. He is still writing and publishing his poetry and keeps doing everything the same like there will still be 80 more years ahead. Then there is me at 45 and I am always in fear of my own death..go figure.
I had a dream last night that i went to your home for advise and healing...you are my hero, you welcomed me and helped me. even thou i gave up on making videos a few years ago. i wish you had been my mother or sister, i'm 60 and feeling so done with life, i never expected to live this long, i saw the cockettes perform in s.f. too and i used to want to be a beautiful old woman like you, but depression holds me tight in it's grip and all i can say is where do you get your strength to go on?
Hey Margaret, great video. My grandmother is 89 yrs old and still keeps on going. The way I see it, if you think about dying all the time your really not living. Just living one day at a time is much easier to deal with than trying to focus on living for years. When you focus on trying to live many days and years it becomes a bigger task and stressful.
I'm 20, almost 21. I used to think about dying quite alot, and still do from time to time. It is a waste, such stupid anxeity that wont go away. I congragulate you for admitting such a personal issue. Cheers!
Great job talking about it. I just turned 70; my mom is now 99. We all have new challenges, and we are the first generation(s) that have the task of defining how to do this gracefully. You are doing a wonderful job. We all will have physical and psychological problems, but I think most challenging is how to keep mentally alert, engaged, and not depressed. The next generation will look to us for guidance. You are doing a fabulous job.
i think about it all the time, it scares me but i dont know how to stop my thoughts at times. it gets in the way of living...when im always worried when it would happen to me. i admire you :) you are a beautiful person!
I'm 24 and I started thinking about dying when I was 8 or 9 years old. It's very depressing and I try not to think of it, because the way I see it, when you're gone youre gone. Although, you may get another chance at life, but it wont be your mind, it'll be a new mind. Im just grateful I had a chance to exist, and watching your videos makes me feel better
I don´t know about you but that word ´passed away´always bugs me. I prefer the word ´passed forward´ because we all move forward and energy can never die it is just keeps moving.
just celebrated my mothers 80th, week before she hiked a canyon and said "I feel 10 years younger after that hike... I must go back and do it again" Guess where we are going ...that's right we are going hiking... I hope I can keep up with her! 80 is still young!
Great vlog. My mother is 90. Just that fact makes 80 seem much younger, than I ever could have thought it.
It's not death anymore that i fear, it's my energy slowing down I dread. I laugh that NOW I critique my looks when I rarely looked into a mirror until my 50's. HA, I missed all the best of me, lookwise. I never thought about it.
You ma'am, look great. I DO appreciate this sharing. Thank you.
Age, old, elderly, senior citizen. Words, words, words. It's the spooky, judgmental meanings we attach to those words that have us all creeped-out. I am almost 70; younger people call me old behind my back, not out of meanness, but out of RELATIVITY & disrespect. Why be so insulted or afraid of calling myself "old"? It's all about connotations and perceptions and expectations. I am an old broad, wiser than most, spunky as vinegar & proud of it! Up with the old! It's all good!
Intriguing thoughts, Margaret. I'm seeing, from a few years behind you, the beginnings of those same changes in perception. Old? As I aproach 66? Not hardly. And as I approach 80, I hope to see it the same. But it's different now than it was at 20, 40, the evil 50. I look around and think, "Ya know, I might not be here in 10 years. I might not even be here tomorrow. Will it matter? Not really. Aside from pissing me off that I just finally finished renovating the kitchen..."
you do not seem old to me at all. I mean we do not see the pits, but to me you seem like a person, who is enjoying, celebrating life and it is always a pleasure to see your videos.
If you are what 80 year looks and acts like. None of us have anything to fear about aging. So many give up on life before they should. What a waste and a loss for us all. I for one celebrate your 80 years of wisdom and experiences atree3 thank you for sharing a piece of your life and your refreshing outlook with us!!!
