Wow, It is really beautiful watching the teamwork put into one drum. I have been working on one as a gift to my brother for 3 months and am not even close to being done. Can you tell me what the name of the tool used at 0:49 sec and 1:12 min? THX :)
@jhenry291 The tool at 0.49 is just a machete. The other tool... I don't know what they are called in Ghana, but woodcarvers here in the US call them "crooked knives." There ware some smaller versions available from Sweeden at a reasonable price.

We don't have any one in Ireland that we could recommend. We do have some tuning tutorials on our site, as well as a DVD that teaches you how to re-head a djembe. Thanks!
Not from Ghana, there are cheap djembes because, djembes don't come from ghana.Ghana only manufacture djembes for money.True djembes are from Mali and Guinea.
wonderful how they work, wish I could have one of those djembes!

I would have thought to have used hot coals to burn the hole through the drum, then come back with chisel in hand to carve the rest of it.

Great stuff. No wonder djembes are so expensive--what a lot of work!
