  • thanks so much ive never heard of picturing a "GHOST" ball but it is something that i will deffinitly remember next time im face with a slice or cut shot im unsure of i cant wait to get done with this comment so i can watch part two!!!!!

  • Hello, reader. If you started reading this, don't stop or else. I hate people who post these kind of comments but.... Post this to 16 videos in 30 minutes and promise your self to never listen to these kind of comments or make one up. But this one is real.If you don't post this, a boy with no head or legs will show up in ur room at midnight kill you. Everyone will forget u. start posting. the timer will start as soon as you finish reading this. yes I do hate these coment

  • This is the first time I heard of taking the kick (carry) into account when making a shot. I always understood this effect is very hard to predict (people actually refer to this as a BAD or HEAVY contact) From what I've understood the chances of it happening are increased with the action that is put on the cueball (including rolling). A simple stun shot would then give you the least chance of having a kick. This is why you'll see snooker players for example prefer a stun run through to a roll-in

  • @forcefollow I had a older guy who a 7 on apa and he told me that you use the light reflected on the ball to use that as your point of contact. Do you agree with that?

Thanks for your time and the video's

  • if you tell us that you have to do it physically then quit talking shoot the ball then let us do it physically haha

  • dang man hit the stining ball dang 6mins

  • dang man hit the stining ball

  • just hit the ball already

  • Thanks for posting. Provides really clear visualization of the concepts. Just ignore the trolls.

  • very good to see this explained in video i would have showed how byrnes used his experiment he explained in his book "advanced pool technichs" u can find that book on file sharing sites

  • Also if you aim the object ball 1/2 inch to the left of the center of the pocket when the 2 balls are being held together for the .003 of a second the throw will push the ball onto the track for the center of the pocket

  • Dr. Cues wife uses the method Bushputz is describeing. But you need to know the Diameter of the Cue Ball then divide that measurement by 2, and that measurement is moved back past the edge of the object balls edge, on average the tip plus ferrule is equal to 1 1/8 inch so if you can lean over the object ball and place your cue on the table you can get an idea of where the center of the ghost ball is to be located.
  • The easy way to explain ghost ball aiming:

    1) find the exact point you want your object ball to hit (in this case, the very center of the pocket)

    2) draw an imaginary line from that point through the center of the object ball

    3) extend that line to a point 1/2 ball past the edge of the object ball

    4) aim the cue ball so it rolls over that point

    5) stay down on your shot, and watch where the object ball goes. Adjust your aim accordingly.

Use center ball for now - deal with english later.

  • How come when I tried that with inside English, the object ball still pocketted successfully?

  • There's a phenomenon known as deflection, or 'squirt'.

When you shoot a cue ball with left english, the cue ball squirts to the right.

When you use right english, it squirts to the left.

  • As far as your example is concerned, let's use the video setup for your shot.

You shot the cue ball with left english, making the cue ball squirt slightly to the right. This means you hit a little less of the object ball than you intended. If the cue ball had no side-spin, the object ball would have hit to the left of your intended target.

  • oh, so basically if you want to cut a shot further, then just hit outside english?

  • Google: pool throw

Click on the first link titled, "Understand English - Throw - Easy Pool Tutor"

    Look at the diagram.

Visualize the balls being coated with Velcro. The spinning cue ball (with right english) grabs the object ball and throws it a little to the left.

If you put left english on the cue ball, you will throw the object ball to the right.

Conversely, if you put right english on the cue, it will throw the object ball to the left.

Watch the movie for a shot that calls for throw

  • Think of the cue ball and the object balls as having tiny little gears. When you put left english on the cue ball, and that spinning cue ball contacted the object ball, think of the gears briefly meshing. The cue ball 'grabs' the object ball just a bit, and 'throws' the object ball to the right.

Basically, what you are doing is accentuating the 'throw effect'

    Hope this helps

  • what an idiot

  • dr.cue's #7 explains the ghost ball theory of aiming, concisely, in about 3 minutes. check it out

  • Due to the economy Ive been forced to use dail up. It takes an hour to download a 10 min video. This video is 9 mins of philosophical fluff and 1 min of basic info. If you want to be a better teacher, get to the point and just show the techniques.

  • This is my first comment but I've watched almost all of your videos. My game and conceptual knowledge has vastly improved because of you. I can't thank you enough. Like everyone else, the economy and the holidays have tapped me out. I promise to send at least twenty bucks when I'm back on my feet. Shouldn't be longer than a few months, thanks again.

  • 4:23 i use the same tech.

  • wow man i really like all of your videos i look at pool differently now. im always trying to improve and you are helping out alot

  • thanks! that explains it!

  • gr8 vid i couldn't have put it better my self

  • wow i never knew how to cut that good and in a pro!!!

  • Wow...I've been playing for many years and I've never understood this simple concept. I thought you were being redundant at first, but you've explained this extremely well. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

  • really thx man the video is nice

  • this is an easy shot, but nice tutorial

  • That helps alot with my game. I was curious why i always needed to aim a little more to the outside of the ball then expected. Thanks

  • visual teaching is the best...

  • Nice basic breakdown
