Oh man! I remember finding the mp3s of this record on Napster back in like 1997 when it was free.. back when the music sharing thing first started. I freaked the fuck out when I heard it. I called my dad in to hear it.. my dad of course being the cat that got me into Herbie, when I was about 1 or 2 days old, if I remember right. My dad was pretty excited about it. This record is a fabulous little piece of history for a Rhodes dude like me.
@MuseseekerMan you're probably right. he's certainly the most prolific. i love joe sample and bob jamesas well though. zawinul and les mccann were no joke either. and ramsey lewis and mike longo and....lol
All the great pianists of the 70s sounded great playing the Fender Rhodes, but Herbie made it sound like a completely new instrument. He had a special touch with the rhodes.
@MuseseekerMan I totally get it. I tell you one thing: when I first heard Herbie's "Tell Me A Bedtime Story" I wanted to go out and buy a Fender Rhodes that same day. That track is Fender Rhodes 101 plain and simple.
"fuzz-wah pedal and an echoplex"
That sounds like a lyric!

@JDALIVETUBE they started making new ones. Obviously it's not the same cause it's not 1970 but it is made by Rhodes.
