haha Ive had the same question as well....but Im going to go with a Ported MHI Big Evo 3 16g with a Ported HAFE Manifold w/ ext. 38mm wastegate. Over a 50trim....because why buy a 50 trim when you can get a 60-1. lol also I have the same car as you but mines a Talon.
Depends on your goals. A quick car to zip around? Hard to beat a 16g. A 50 doesn't lag "bad" at all, but the 16g torque spikes (fun!) while the 50 is smooth and just keeps pulling. If you don't plan on running more than 20psi or so, I'd probably just get a 16g. It's not like a 16g is slow or anything.
On the street, once you start really enjoying the 50, it's often time to shut it down anyway. Both are great and fun turbos. My 50 was faster, but I probably smiled more with the 16g.
@WesSeid i have a question bro. im getting another dsm on friday but it still has the stock 14b turbo its a rebuild but i was wondering can i buy an aftermarket intercooler kit and drive around with that on while im runnin a stock turbo? im talkin a fmic with all hard metal piping and everything that comes with it to? and if so how of much of hp gain cud that boost me? thanks
@SWATKIID Sure. Plenty of people have put up relatively ridiculous numbers with a 14b, and it's a lot of fun in the low and midrange. Just make sure however much power you're making you have the other mods to go with that level. Fuel pump, bigger injectors, etc. It takes very little to get some nice gains. Catback, K&N, and 15psi is enough for low 14s or better. That's around 250hp or so right there. Add fuel pump, injectors,16g, fmic, fuel control, and you're up around 300+.
@WesSeid thats amazing that the smallest shit could do that to your car lol especially a 4 banger. so i can do that? cuz theres a specific intercooler kit im looking at and was just curious...as far as turbos go i do wanna move up to a big evo 3 16g turbo...maybe even bigger...what would be better to do?
@SWATKIID Hard to go wrong when adding stuff you'd need later anyway. Better IC, exhaust, fuel pump, whatever. Most of it will help no matter what turbo is on it. If you live in a colder area, the IC may not be a big upgrade with the 14b except during summer, but it certainly won't hurt. And it looks cool, so hey. Turbo size depends on your goals. And be honest about them.
@SWATKIID If it's a daily-driver zip around town car, hard to go wrong with a 16g. And the more power you make, the more stuff you can break. Will a tricked-out beast break if you aren' t beating the crap out of it? Maybe not, but there's something to be said for a "mild" fun car. If it's your only transportation, I'd really think twice about overdoing it. The cars can take a lot of abuse, but they have their limits.
Depends on your goals. See my first comment again about 50s and 16Gs.
it depends on what kind of power you are looking for, the big 16g spools faster and will make somewhere between 300-400 hp, depending on mods, and a 50 trim will make more hp, but wont spool as quickly
@BoOsTFeRLiFeSRT4DSM Are you serious? The record for a stock 6 bolt is 9,9 at 140mph and for a stock 7 bolt is 10.3 at 136mph.... they will hold plenty of power just fine
@BoOsTFeRLiFeSRT4DSM Then you don't know what the hell your doing.... Stock 6 bolt bottom end will handle 500+whp very easily and they have been proven to 600+whp.
@BoOsTFeRLiFeSRT4DSM you obviously dont know dsm's. people run 500whp on stock lowerends all the time and they still last forever. why put 4-7 grand in a motor when you dont have to. if you burn something up rebuild time. there are like 7 people just on this comment wall talking about it saying they make over 500 on a lowerend. your out numbered here. go to a srt4 video and and try your comments you might fool some noobs...
@holsetdsm91 haha dumbass i have a gsx and a srt4, check out my vids. im just saying your motor wont last long why not just build it right the first time so you dont have downtime with a spun rod bearing?
@ytang1 jesus christ i had ford lightning's and 11 second camaro's and i had this talon only 1 car length behind me thats when i gave them new found respect......except when not on the boost he still gets 20 mpg i get 10 so there cool!
god i love how hard thos cars pull i got a 1990 with cold air and turbo and piped thats about it allmost stock and my car pulls hard as hell 2 o and also a stage 2 clutch.......nice car
I agree, a stock six bolt 4g63 can do 500 safley stock internals.
