They happen to be one of the few bands that sound like no one else and can be named after just a couple of notes....once the singing starts there is no doubt who it is of course. Their music is not for everyone just like every band...but they made an impact.

"Rock Band" is actually giving them new fans these days.

jrbo....believe me I am a true Boston fan from day one. I have all their cd's and have the reissued first two cd's. The "Third Stage" cd was good and I love the song Amanda. However the "Walk On cd was mostly a rehash of everything they had done unfortunately. Look at the inside cover and see how Tom controlled every stage of that cd..playing most of the instruments..most of the writing...the arranging and recorded at his studio. I understand how bands can disintegrate but Tom must be a pain!

As talented as Boston was and with the success they had on the first 2 albums a given.....I think Boston was never more than a 3 or 4 album band. Tom was always too obsessive /compulsive and treated his first 2 albums as his babies.

At first their sound was original and new but it began to wear thin after the 3rd album and by the 4th it was coming apart at the seams. For a band to be considered top ten of all time it takes more than 2 hit albums spaced about 8 years apart.

Don't get me wrong...I love and have loved their music since I heard "More Than a Feeling" on the radio in 1977. I wish things had been different for them through their careers. I never felt they grew as musicians and with the constant changing of personnel. Tom always wanted the "Big guitar sound" and to build his own electronics but music styles changed faster than he could invent new ways to electronically play music.
