wait......so for year of my life ive been living in jamaica when i was a kid and the whole time i though that that sound was coming from a insect.....
This is NOT a tree frog at all. It is called Eleutherodactylus johnstonei, common name is Lesser Antillean frog or Whistling frog. Not native to Jamaica either, but introduced from the Lesser Antilles in the 1800's. TRUE Jamaican tree frogs belong to the genus Osteopilus and are MUCH larger and make a very different vocalization. Not every frog up off de ground mek dem tree frog, see mi a seh? The Jamaican laughing frog (Osteopilus brunneus) is the most common hylid in JA.
thanks so much for sharing this video! i also love the sounds of those lil buggers! i tried to find them but have never been able to see them, and in action too! thanks again!
thanks so much for posting this, it is the best night sound to sleep on in Jamaica, always hear it also when we talk to our friend mokko over the phone :)
