Art is everything you wish to call art. Art is simply everything that is human made and not mass produced or produced in a small scale. Art can be a table or a broken plate with a banana lying on it. Art can be crap or it can be good crap. Buying art is like buying shares at a stock market. It is just a supply demand thing.
PS i say this from the perspective of an art student. I have 16-24 hours art lessons a week.
Sad that cubism, pop art, dadaism type crap-art existed and speculators and fraudsters made tons of money out of it.Basically they killed the talent and accumulation of knowledge of centuries. Classic painting was seen as a taboo especially in the 20th century and the fraud still goes on as we speak by (con)artists like Tracey Emin who has sold her dirty urine soaked bed as (con)artpiece for 100s of thousands of dollars.
The reason it sells is becaue the Demand is high. Your argument against the "new pop art" is a fraud could also be said about classical art. You can easily say that classic painting is a fraud. You can also say that all art is a fraud. BUT it does not matter, because if the Demand is high then people will buy.
I am surprised by you lack of complete logical reasoning. It shows that you confuse supply/demand with art.According to your twisted logic, if there is high demand for a rising share in a stock market, this would be called art too. What kind of education do you have?
People buy Picasso's Art because the Demand is high, Picasso's art is expensive because the Supply is low. This is very simple logic, it does not matter if you are surprised or not surprised, this is irrelevant. Also, my main point to you was that, "you can call ALL art a fraud" and this too is irrelevant because even if it's considered a "fraud," people will still buy.
art isnt about an artist being as realistic as possible in rendering a figure or landscape.
if that were the case nothing ground breaking in visual arts would ever happen and we artist would be nothing better than x-rox machines. well thats what they teach me in college. honestly cubism is a hard art to see with out feeling slightly confused. you have to see it from an emotional stand point to visually be comfortable.
