  • It's funny...I am an old Baltimore Colt fan and had so much venom for the AFL for years and years. Even claimed that SBIII was fixed. But in retrospect, I LOVED the AFL. It was a great league and while the early days they didn't have many great players, they quickly got REALLY good. But I loved that they were THINKERS. The AFL is as important to current NFL history as NFL history is. LONG LIFE my brothers I used to hate.

  • does anyone know where I can watch this full documentary on line or purchase on dvd

    thanks

    GO BILLS!

  • A great documentary.

  • Holy Crap! Film footage of a football game at Fenway Park? Talk about something that's hard to find!

  • best hit ever at 0:7

  • Are these DVD's availabel for purchase. Anyone??

  • I still hate the fact that the AFL was ever merged.

We would have kicked the NFL`s ass for another 10 plus years!

Great league-great tough players who basically played for nothing compared to the whiny crybaby millionaires of today.

  • @GaryBoy54 I could not have said it better myself! :-D

  • @GaryBoy54 If the AFL-NFL merger never happened, Pittsburgh would be in the NFL. I don't think the AFL had any teams that would have beaten the Steelers after 1972.

Also, the first Super Bowl after the merger were against Dallas (NFL) and Baltimore (NFL).

  • @srotagadirolf Probably not. Maybe the Dolphins or the Raiders back then.

  • @srotagadirolf Madden owned Knoll, check your regular season records.

  • @GaryBoy54 Like it or not, the league had no choice but to merge. The bidding war was costing them both what was then) a hell lot of money.

  • @GaryBoy54 today's players would wipe the floor with these guys-deal with it.

  • if the AFL and the NFL never joined, the bills would have won 6 championships

  • I always thought it was funny that some of the top pro wrestlers were in the AFL. Ernie "The Big Cat" Ladd, Wahoo McDaniel, "Superstar" Billy Graham, and Verlon Biggs.

  • i saw something like this on HBO. i cant remember the name but it was basically the same thing

  • If this ever comes out in DVD, I'm first in line. The AFL was the best football on the planet! I'm sorry the two leagues merged, although I understand why they did.

  • Cleveland was part of the All-America Football Conference. The AAFC ran from 1946 until 1949. Cleveland won all four of the AAFC championship games (beating the S.F. 49ers the last two times). In 1950, the Browns, 49ers and Baltimore Colts were brought into the NFL. Browns won championship its first two years in the NFL. AAFC Colts folded. New Colts started in 1953.

  • @freen981

And it's to my knowledge that they only lost about 4 times during those four years including two undefeated seasons.

  • is this on dvd?

  • clevland was apart of the originl nfl so they are not going to shine much liight on them

  • Does anyone know if this will atleast be ON Demand through our cable providers???

  • Watched entire FullColorFootball when on Showtime. Brilliantly done. Great for someone like self born in '66. They really played for pay back then!

  • This was played during tonights game in New Orleans. It said it's going to be shown on the NFL Network starting January 8th.

  • At 0:14 it's the Big Cat himself - Ernie Ladd.

Can't wait for this to come out on DVD.

  • Can someone tell me why they showed the Cleveland Browns, and more specifically, Jim Brown, in this video. They were NEVER in the AFL.

  • No Cleveland Browns in this video. The Bengals had similar road uniforms.

  • @caputobd , if you are referring to #32 at around 0:21 on the sidelines shaking hands with the guy with the mic, that is not Jim Brown. You may have made that association because they showed Paul Brown just before that, and Brown was the coach/owner of the Bengals...but that wasn't Jim Brown. Try freezing the video at that point and you can tell by looking at him...I have no idea who it is but I know what Jim Brown looks like. :D

  • The #32 you're referring to is Curtis McClinton, Texans/Chiefs fullback from '62-'69 and 1962 AFL Rookie of the Year.

  • @dvenhuis Yes, now that I look at it again I believe you are correct...and is that Joe Foss holding the mic?

  • Caputobd, I can tell you they interviewed Jim Brown on Cookie Gilchrist. Brown admitted he admired Gilchrist and said he was a great football player.

  • Does anybody know if this will be released on DVD?

  • Yes. They say not until 2012, which stinks because I do not get Showtime. I am going to have to wait : (

  • @jgboys1 It is going to be aired on the NFL network on Friday January 8th. I don't know if they will show all 5 episodes on the same day or if they will run them over a period of weeks (I suspect that will be how it's done in order to have something stretch during the offseason). I plan to record it on my DVR and save it for posterity. :D I'm an old AFL fan and I don't want to miss this at all.

  • Thank you SilverHamer. I am old school, I will set up my VCR ; )

  • @01042004, NFL network is going to run it beginning Friday Jan 8th. I'm going to capture it on my DVR for posterity :D

  • Since I re-uped with Showtime right before new season of Dexter started, I missed the first 2 episodes. Are the going to replay these?

  • How about putting this on a channel that most people actually get?

  • Now this is what I like, the old days of the American Football League, beautiful. ;)

  • Jim Nance, Lance Alworth, Paul Robinson ,Ben Davidson

  • Anyone know if this will be offered on DVD?

  • At 0:06 Buffalo Bills #70 Tom Sestak & #78 Ron McDole

Chargers #22 & #18 Keith Lincoln and Tobin Rote

  • Sorry, #78 is Jim Dunaway and #72 is Ron (The Dancing Bear) McDole. Also, #58 is Mike Stratton making the hit on Lincoln. At least you got the best of them all #70 Tom Sestak right.

  • Yep, you're correct Mr. Weiss (I got your number right!). I knew that whole defense by heart. My mistake. BUT! I also remember that you wore white Adidas Superstars - Size 13. Lets see if I'm right: 86 Day 72 McDole 78 Dunaway 70 Sestak 58 Stratton 51 Tracey 52 Jacobs 42 Byrd 24 Edgerson 26 Saimes ??? 42 Guidry? Haygood Clarke ??? Was he 24?
  • Well no you didn;t, Brave Bob Weiss wore #8, Randy Smith was #9. Tom Day wore #88 and #89. Harry Jacobs wore #64, Hagood Clarke was #45 and Paul Guidry was #59.

  • Was Guidry a Safety or Corner?

Now that I think of it he may have been an LB.

  • Okay, got it. The other safety was Haygood Clarke and he wore #45. I cheated and googled this one.

  • At 0:04 - Buffalo Bills HOF #66 Billy Shaw.

  • At 0:09 is Pete Gogolak and at 0:21 is Lou Saban.
