  • My english teacher is showing clips of this movie. She said the name of the movie and I'm like "Never heard of it" and then she shows a few clips and I'm like "Oh wait I've watched this before!". I love this scene. And I dunno why, but "yawp" is a fun word to say. Is it just me? Anyways, love this movie, probably one of the only "older" movies that I like.

  • @seoul2k11 ad1 it can't help you anything you do to try to make the fear of death disappear.

ad2 nobody ever knows the Truth (it doesn't even exist), only morceaus of thruths and that's not really enough.

    For me. :)

  • @seoul2k11 the restrictions of tradition they all encounter, made obvious by pre-determined lives and paths chosen by parents earlier in the movie...banker....lawyer...doctor...you have to watch the whole movie.

  • This is my favorite scene in any movie, ever!

  • wow...which movie is this??

  • @Nibha28 The Dead Poet Society truly AMAZING movie

  • This part actually brought me to tears, and i can't even explain why.

  • 2:33 Love!!

  • I always imagined Todd becoming a truly great artist, floating through the all the nations of the world, soaking up the poetry of the earth.

  • ( real ) YAWP!!

  • YAWP!

  • I personally think its about the Brotherhood of Death (Also known as Kapittel 322 or Skull And Bones) a secret Society that can only be found in Yale

President bush was a member of them.

  • One of the best scenes of the film!

I don't think I saw this movie in its entirety... I remember nothing of it.

  • This scene has changed my aspect on life. I will embrace.

  • This scene truly and deeply affects me till this day.

  • Whoa i love this scene ! Ethan Hawke is such a great actor, and Todd's SO cute, he really is a character i can relate to ... God i just adore this movie -3 but it is so sad...

  • I close my eyes and this imagine floats beside me a sweaty-toothed madman (with a stare) that pounds my brain, his hands reach out and choke me....

  • Favorite part of my favorite movie!!! I hope to be as good of an English teacher as Mr. Keating is when I become a teach!

  • ¥T

  • He is teaching the lad to get comfortable in his own skin.... just wonderful...

  • Ethan Hawke is so cute, and I like how he's the shy, naive character

  • I wanted to BE Mr. keating when I was a student teacher. I still want to capture students the way he did.

    YAWP!!!!

  • AWSOME!!

  • 5 people need to sound their barbaric YAWPS ...over the rooftops of the world...

  • Keiting is AMAZING

  • "Don't you forget this" - classic line.

  • There's something about this part that almost brings me to tears every time I watch it. I was always Todd in school, but now I'm a little better. I remember watching this in class and thinking why can't all teachers be like that?

  • Too many people acclaim Robin Williams in this film, and forget about Anderson and Perry.

  • i wanna see this. so bad.

  • Woah. I see a young Dr. Wilson!

From the moment we enter crying

until the moment we leave dying

    It'll just cover your face

As you wail and cry and scream

  • This scene makes me cry... I can relate to Todd. If only I could sound my barbaric YAWP on the rooftops of the world too!

  • this scene is magnificient

  • Few performances have inspired me as deeply as Williams in this one. Truly one of the greatest films of all time.

  • Alive I am, a burning flame wandering through the pit of existence

Always have I had fear that I may be put out too but

"only in their dreams can men truly be free, twas always thus,

    and always thus will be"

  • Alive I am, a burning flame wandering through the pit of existence

but always I have had fear that I may be put out but

"only in their dreams can men be truly free, twas always thus

    and always thus will be."

  • It's not about being an individual, persay.

    It's about being alive..

  • hes talking about his brother right? how he can never live up to the brothers expectations

  • YAWP!

  • Best scene EVER. This was my favorite movie for soooo long. And it really hit me so hard cuz I had just begun to write poetry and lyrics right before it came out in 89

  • @benjaminlyrics

This is one of my top favourites, what other similar movies do you know of?

  • @benjaminlyrics

This is one of my top favorites, what other similar movies do you know of?

  • o.O As I watched this, the thunderstorm behind me sent out a roar along with Todd's barbaric YAWP.

  • Don't you forget this.

  • I think they should remake this movie with Agent Smith from The Matrix playing Mr. Keating's role.

  • Neils poem also sucks, sounds like he lifted it, It only rhymes 2 words! Wtf!

  • @sagn a poem doesn't necessarily have to rhyme

  • @sagn Poetry is just a romantic way of putting feelings and ideas into words. It doesn't have to rhyme at all! However, If rhyming is the effect you want to have on people, then make it rhyme.

  • @sagn coz you touch yourself at night

  • @blinkmatty182 Why just at night?

  • @sagn because he is bringing sexy back....

but you are missing the point of the movie.

  • @flo2893 The movie has no point other than to try fool you into thinking that these kids are individuals.

Keating: Repeat after me "You are all individuals" Class: "We are all individuals!"

  • I sound my Barbaric YAWP

  • a snuggie is the simple remedy

  • @asphyxiationsaveme lol! I think they should put this clip in a snuggie commercial and say "well not anymore!"

  • @noXoneXyouXwannaXno hahahahha, youre right!

  • @msm2you Nice thought. I aggree.

  • One of the best movie scenes of all time. Classic!

  • YAAAAWP!

  • wow ethan hawk!!

I had a hard time recognising him

    he is so young

  • That was a beautiful yawp.

  • woof

    also known as: spam

  • This scene is hypnotic, illustrating the art of exceptional teaching. respect to robin williams, peter weir & ethan hawke

  • Robbin Williams is so awesome. I think he is the best actor alive.

  • Since Jimmy Stewart is dead, you may be right.

  • @quallinator certainly one of his best rolles

  • Ethan Hawke is really good in this film.

  • YAAAAAAAAAWP.

  • we watched this movie in school yesterday... guess if everyone started laughing when they started Yawping :D

  • YAWP, world!!! :) Can you hear me?! :) :)

  • @Tchappz yes, it can! YAWP!

  • @liskism YAWP, mate! :)

  • I think that what made Todd do what he did in the final scene of this film was this.

He found a door to himself, and like Keating told him not to, he never forgot it.

  • this movie is like a poem.

  • And Walt Whitman is da bomb :DD

  • My favorite movie!!!

  • I have to write a paper on the word YAWP for english.

  • Yawp <3

  • I love how Todd thinks he's worthless and then just says something that stuns you. He can see and articulate something others can't but he's got to see himself too.

  • Remind me to use "yawp" in a Scrabble game ;)

  • This scene is my absolute favorite from the movie. That and the ending are the most significant in my opinion :).

  • "Mr. Anderson thinks that everything inside of him is worthless and embarrassing, isn't that right Todd, isn't that your worst fear? Well I think you're wrong, I think you have something inside of you that is worth a great deal." You gotta love the way Keating encourages his students instead of ranking down on them for not doing their assignment.

  • Yes, he's a beautiful teacher.

  • YAAAAWP we watched this in english class and now my friends and i say it all the time.

  • The greatest yawp I have heard was fierce and hilarious at the same time. Thank you Walt for creating such an interesting thing.

  • I close my eyes and this imagine floats beside me a sweaty-toothed madman that pounds my brain his hands reach out and choke me and all the time he's mumbling mumbling truth truth like a blanket that always leaves your feet cold you push it, stretch it, it'll never be enough you kick at it, beat it, it'll never cover any us from the moment we enter crying to the moment we leave dying it'll just cover your face as you wail and cry and scream
  • I wrote that out for my poetry class.

  • oh man, what a great scene from an overall excellent movie ; )

  • that poem he makes up on the spot is amazing. i love it.

  • @summertaylove I love those few seconds when he finishes and opens his eyes. He fears he's gonna be ridiculed as the whole class stares at him in total silence, then they break out in cheers and applause and he feels great.

  • Exactly. That is my absolute favorite part in the whole entire movie. I have that whole part quoted on my facebook.

  • YAWP!

  • when old uncle W was asked if he ever took an IQ test

    he said

"no carpenter with a compass dare measure this orbit of mine"

  • Anyone else crying?

  • I think so many people can relate to Todd, and wish they had someone like this man in their life to help them...

    my favourite scene

  • Exactly. It's one of my favorites too.

  • @thecoffster182 I'm am one of those people and I'm still looking for my Mr. Keating.

  • @thecoffster182 Sooo true ...

    *yawp!*

    I love that movie :)

  • @thecoffster182 True.

  • @thecoffster182 So...I guess if that person never appears during our life, we should create him-her within ourserves, don´t you think?

  • @thecoffster182 Todd was me to the tee - at school - its scary!!! This was just like my English literature lesson - except the teacher wasnt as sympathetic and as encouraging as what Robin Williams is portraying here

  • One big thumb's up!

  • YAWP!

  • "I would like you to give us a demonstration of a BARBARIC YAWP"

  • To Woo women

any moron can flirt it takes a POET to Woo

  • The best teachers aren't the ones who just teach the subject matter but challenge us in more aspects, who challenges the mind.

  • i'm italian and i really like this film ='( everytime that i watch it make me cry!

  • Yawwp~!!!

  • Now I need to see this movie again. I remember balling and thinking what an awesome film

  • That's my favorite scene in that movie. Beautifully acted, directed. Just stunning.

  • soo beautiful

  • YAWP!!!!

  • But the world doesn't work like that! Only movies do. So what use is it, if it reflects only upon itself. Art drawn on art is a waste of time ... Go outside and watch the world if you would learn. And it's free.
