Plus, they both make completely different styles of music, so fighting for one or the other is a terribly biased thing to do. this is really weird, how perception changes. I saw this as a little kid, and being a huge MJ fan, I never cared about 'the old guy beside him'. Reference GWR 2012 which confirms this fact and states that the Beatles have sold in excess of 1 billion units. Estimates of Beatles sales from various internet sources range from 1.3 billion to 2.2 billion.
But the GWR have kept audits on Beatles sales since 1971 (Reference Alex Ross - 'The Rest Is Noise) and sales of 1.3 billion are more realistic.

Once again, these sales are confirmed by the GWR based on sources from IFPI - RIAA etc and are not internet blogs or internet fan sites that make sales claims.
Sony has made a claim of 750 million sales for MJ but this has never been supported by an industry audit based on tax sales returns. It remains just a claim.

@LoveLivesForeverMJx As for revolutionising music - how? Only the Beatles are taught to master degree level at university due to the fact that they actually, really did revolutionise composition and recording technology.
MJ wrote less than 30 songs by himself in a career of 40 years and used dozens of the worlds best writers to write or co-write his songs and dozens of the best session musicians to make his music.
As for best singer - there is a long list much better than MJ.

@dangeriscrazy You're right about there being a long list of better singers than MJ, but for a complete package of singing, wrinting, stage performance and flat out entertainment, nobody ever did it better. I actually think as a kid, MJ was a better pure singer, he could really blow when he fronted the J5, you could hear a lot of blues and even gospel flavor in his voice. MJ did write a hell of a lot more than 30 songs dog, you're wrong on that point.
