@MrStig691 It's nothing to do with that at all. They are restricted to what they can run due to testing rules, so they set up older cars for demonstrations such as this. They'll add bodywork etc occasionally to bring them up to date. but it's nothing to do with the fact they were much prettier cars in the years gone by.
@1good168 Well yeah, but it wouldn't be ultimate F1 time anyway. Probably would be a few seconds off. Quick check on another video - 1:48.5, around 18sec faster than v8.
@426hemi49 and lemme guess, the best engine in the world is a big old clunky v8 with a huge blower running on pure alcohol that needs rebuilt every-time the car turns a wheel. fucking yanks. get over yourselves. give anyone 9 litres of displacement and they can make a car go fast in a straight line.
@thatciggaweed Sorry to offend my friend it was written in humor.& I'm not a yank I'm a proud Australian that likes any form of motorsport. After all motorsports the only real sport.I'd say by your comments that you've never been to the drags. The engines that have to be rebuilt after each run use nitro not alcohol & have 8000 horsepower that's why they need to be rebuilt so often.Pro stock in Australia have 400 ci about 1200 horsepower & quicker than an f1 car.Impressive technology.Check it out.
Love that old -23, looks so much better that the recent cars with that squat rear end. Anyone know exactly what he's driving other than that, though? I'm guessing it's a Holden, but I'm not big enough on that area of the sport to know offhand.
@flapecake It's V8 Supercar, Holden Commodore VE. 5.0 Litre V8 620hp, weighs 1350kg, does approx 300km/h on the Conrod Straight at Bathurst. Button was 7 seconds slower in that car than the regular driver, Lowndes... But I suspect that Commodore was same one that had to race in Melbourne at the grand prix a few days after, so I guess they wanted it back intact!
@FalconBerlina84 Thanks for the detailed reply! Gotta love the sound of those V8s tuned to within an inch of their lives. Makes sense that neither party would want their investment damaged, so I guess it's no surprise that Jenson didn't push the car or himself to the fullest on what is essentially a press day, albeit a little more exciting than the routine example.
Jenson finally realises why his Honda years in 07 and 08 were so bad

It's funny how this teams on shows and tours don't use the post-2008 chassis because they're so embarrassingly ugly and disgusting.

@MrStig691 They don't use newer chassis because they are not allowed to. They'd be breaking testing rules by using more current chassis.

How boring was that, didn't even show a lap time for the F1 car. major waste of time watching that.

The Chase Helicopter will have to be replaced by a Chase MiG-15 or something to keep up with the F1

Imagine how good it would've sounded if they'd brought the V10 from 2005.... !
Suprahampton 10 months ago
@Suprahampton old style cars (like 2004-2008), 2004 mosquito V10s and slicks would be the perfect recipe for the ultimate Formula One regulations!
Marcus666Sund 5 months ago
@Marcus666Sund I quite agree.... but with the aero of the 1990's... leaving more overtaking
Suprahampton 5 months ago
@Suprahampton Maybe, or DRS on a 2004-2008 wing (I know I sound like fanboy of 1998-2008 xD).
