There will never be another La Baker... She was a one of a kind. I'm happy knowing that she was treated like a human being when he settled in Paris. I will ad that I'm so very ashamed of the people here in the usa for treating her the way they did.
La Baker, rest in peace, You will always be loved by many people.
If anyone would like to start trending #JosephineBaker with me on twitter follow me and let's keep her memory alive! @SistaLegz I love the woman for everything she represents! She is a role model to me as my mother and grandmother have been. I share her spirit and her connection to humanity. I keep her up on my desktop at work, and majority of the ppl that see it ask who this beautiful woman is (they even ask if we're related "the biggest flattery for me") and I tell them that she was one of th
i am 25 and had to do a report on her when i was in high school i always read stuff that said she had a small voice and wasnt the best singer. i dont see how anyone could say Josephine Baker wasnt a good vocalist and not just dancer,
This was a woman rich in talent. Her voice sounds like fine wine, her movements earthy and elegant at the same time. I know we can never go back but I swear, entertainers should take some notes these days of what this woman went through, what she survived and still looks good in the 70s when she was in her 60s. Thanks for posting and letting us remember.
The great immortal Miss Josephine Baker. Racial bias and ignorance, caused her to leave the US, she made her fame in France, and continued until her death. This vid clip from the 1970's, shows that she still entertained with polish and class, after 50 years. Wow! What a Lady , with a capital "L". I think this is a British Vid from BBC. Good selection of songs shows her talent!
@78timothy It's an embarrassing and sad comment of reality regarding the USA, but oh so true. I don't think we'll ever grow up. She was the Diana Ross of the times, but the USA didn't get to see it for the most part. She was a consummate entertainer to boot
But if Josephine was alive today she would more than likly be Ru Paul best freind....Reason being is that alot of her customs were design by a famous drag queen in Castlenaud, France. They wer every close....Josephine loved all WHITE, BLACK ORANGE OR STR8 GAY OR BI...Her Son Jean who owns a Chez Josephine in New York is a gay activist walking in the step of his mother.
I got chills when she started singing "The Man I Love." It's too bad this was a medley, because it's obvious she could knock these songs out of the park one by one. I'm not sure about my math, but she had to be at least 60 when she did this, which means she had the body of a goddess to be able to look and move like that!
She truimphed in a period when it was extremely difficult to find success if not impossible, not just being a woman, but being a black woman... how more so now, when things are different... Before Madonna there was Marilyn Manroe, before Marilyn there was Josephine Baker. Defying every norm, every social standard, queen of scandel, originality, beauty, kindness. Set the pave for the Angelina Jolies of the world... with her beautiful rainbow family...a true humanitarian. Forever be missed!!!!!!!
Now I see where Judy Garland got a lot of her entertainment moves from and in another video, I see where Carol Burnett got some of her facial expressions from. Josephine Baker- That's who.
I THABK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO POSTING!!! I've been a Baker fan since I was seven and saw an old documentary of her in london. Shes the reason why i became a dancr myself. That voice, that body, that showmanship, the grace. They don't make em like that anymore. This medley was also included into the babino show. I play the cd endlessly. To perform with this much vitality during the time of her passing....THATS AN ARTIST!
Now that's how you do a medley! I don't think any entertainer enjoyed their stardom as much as Josephine Baker enjoyed hers. She was born to entertain and make you smile.
