I've read the book, seen this, and seen a couple of the real show in YT - i think: (1) your credits are cool (2) your set and casting is way better than the series (3) feels 100 times more authentic. Good job!
Well if you have 13 part series you've got the time to deal with the different strands, in fact you'd burn through the office plot line pretty quick. You're right about the set, I'd love to work in an office with that much space + colour.
The 'set' you used (which I guess was just corners of your college) was more like I imagined. Also even the actors were a much better fit, the CBC actors were like caricatures. Thanks for making good films!
The title sequence is cool, I just finished the book yesterday and this is exactly as I remember it so well done, although myself I get really annoyed when adaptations change anything so I hope you can keep it up.
Thanks, actually my friend that was helping me out did 90% of the opening sequence.
I'm glad it is like the book I tried to keep it true as much as I could, there is only 2 other parts--it's basically a look at the first part of the book. (about 20 minutes long all together.)
Ah well, you can only manage to do so much in a project film like this. I've watched the whole thing through and I'd say damn good job. The book itself yes probably has too many unlikely elements and would be too difficult to film in its entirety, but you could edit it and make a good film set in the office almost exclusively (although I would miss Kam Fong, he works as a good comment on China + the west.) I prefer your version to the CBC episode I watched, theirs is too shiny happy people.
You did a great job with this! The tone is a bit closer to the book than the cbc series (although that's great too) I hope you all had fun making this
Thanks for the compliment! I tried my best to make sure to be true to the novel.
We had a blast they were mostly strangers to me too and the project couldn't have gone any better, it really was great. I hope to do something like this again really soon.
I like this better than the novel! Okay, maybe not exactly, but this does have a big advantage over the novel... The thing that I hate about jPod (and a lot of Coupland's post-Microserfs output) is that he puts too many fantastic elements. He's really good at making real-life issues that his characters face seem compelling, like you can really relate to them. But that stuff gets overshadowed in jPod with elements like Kam Fong, drug dealer mom, etc. So, it's great to see that stuff taken out.
Thank you! Yes I thought I'd do that because I felt like man its almost like a whole separate story and to film that in a months time would be SO impossible.
This feels more authentic to the book than what I've seen from the TV show. However, I may not be in place to compare, I live in the US and I don't have the CBC, but none the less, this pleases me more than that cheesey, Prozac infested television program.
Wow, thank you very much for the nice comment and the subscription!!
The CBC show is alright I don't feel myself itching to watch it though. I'm sure you know of this but you can watch it on CBC's website although I've found their connection is really bad.

Thanks a lot! Hopefully I'll be able to get more filming done this year--and something that is actually my own idea.
Oh great! I'm halfway through The Gum Theif and I just bought Elanor Rigby. :)

Thanks again! I'll be making a newer film this summer--completely original, and it'll be much better than this, and I'll finally have my own camera.
But also the set was a college that mine shares a campus with, I also schmooozed the security to let us use that board room haha!

Yeah I definitely miss Kam Fong too, but including him and the parents would be so much of a side plot that you could make another film about it eh?
As for the CBC version, it wasn't bad but they were playing with EVERYTHING. I think it was too much, also the office seemed extremely unrealistic.

Kudos for staying so true to the book. My only complaint would be that John Doe isn't...average enough.
I've yet to see the actual tv series, but this is good.

Thank-you!
Haha yeah, he actually toned it down quite a bit the real actor is a huge goofball.
Thanks for the feedback!

Wow, how hip and modern.
It's so hip and modern, I just want to roller blade, eat bagles, take Yoga and save the environment.
It's so modern and clever, and not pointless at all. It's so urban and uber.

Thanks for the what I am assuming is a sarcastic remark. (note not an attempt to be modern, only a project for school of which I chose this novel.)
