I personally feel offended by this video, The powwow comes from our culture and traditions. It is our way of life. it is how we heal and pray. The dances are not to be used as mockery. The songs used are handed down not sang or copied from country songs. Customs and beliefs come from all First Nations People. To have a powwow you have to be given the right to host such an event. A RIGHT YOU DO NOT HAVE.

With respect to everyone, this Pow Wow was put on by a group of folks in New England that call their organization The Order for the Preservation of Indian Culture. It was founded by an Ojibway who was raised on a Reservation in Michigan in the summers with his father and in a City south of Boston during the school year. He started this organization to educate non-Natives about the culture of his people.

The bottom line is that if you want to dance, then you'd better know what you are doing. This is a living culture. You owe it to the hundreds of thousands of Natives that live in the US and Canada, to represent thier culture correctly. It was founded by an Ojibway who was raised on a Reservation in Michigan in the summers with his father and in a City south of Boston during the school year. He started this organization to educate non-Natives about the culture of his people.

i would just like to say to the one that says you cant be intouch with a heritage just because you are not of full blood. I am mostly irish, but a very small part 1/16b is cherokee. I am very much in touch with my cherokee heritage. I would not be her itf it were not for the hardships that me people suffered long ago when they were pushed off their lands. Obviously these individuals are very misinformed and it's offensive to Natives when people, especially whites, don't take the time to understand their culture correctly. These guys are just playing dress up and it's a joke.

I personally have no idea on the amount of native blood in me. Although I know it's there, I don't believe that the amount counts. Only the lifestyle and choices that each person makes. I'm currently looking for a teacher, although it's very hard when you grow up in a white family and realize what they believe or what white community believes isn't what you believe or feel to be true to yourself. As I said, at most I know that I'm some percent Blackfoot, and some percent Cree. Call me a wannabe.

iam doing the same recentlly my father found me decided i was his child again after he took off & told me i was part native grandpa was full im going to a native centre, going to pow wows speaking 2 elders & taking native instead of frenceh in highskol.doing some research im taking obijway by researching i even made my own notebook=D that person who said that ur comment was a bad 1 is agreeing wit the white mans INdain Act(discrimante aganist ur own)i hope i helped u.

ok, i understand where both sides are coming from, a 1/32 blood quantum is very questionable as to calimi to be native american, but it depends, My mother was native, my father was white, I never knew my father, but got his skin tone and hair color. What was I raised with? not a white family, but youd say I wasnt native because my dad was white most likely, so....give it a rest

I would say you are Native, I have nothing against any Native American who has a blood quantum of 25 percent or more, it's the ones with less, who supposedly had a great great grandparent who was Native and thinks that gives them the right to join in on Native American traditions. do you think they would still be claiming to be Native American 100 or even 50 years ago. being Native American only became popular when dances with wolves came out

actually, I have done somewhat extensive research on the trail of tears. People with a 1/8 blood quantum are quite common in the removals. I understand where you are coming from, but yes, many people with that quantum DID suffer quite a bit. Ive actually seen 1/32 blood quantums on the trail of tears, but.....thats questionable.

bulls**t - having the "right" has nothing to do with it. you are either native or not. "100 or 50 years ago" is exactly that...100 years ago. grow up little man, its 2008. i pray to god your family lineage does not get below your 25 percent blood quantum. once you get a grip on the real world and take your "dances with wolves" tape out of the VCR, you will see that there are alot more indians with less than your reqiured 25 percent quantum. 3/4 blood, osage/cherokee/otoe
