Why not keep them all enrolled and only provide (direct) funds to the elders. These young people need to fend for themselves using the old ways. I thought sovereignty was about not relying on other institutions or governments to take care us. I am full-blooded native and I choose not to use the money given to us by the government. I worked hard to be where I am at. That money is for our elders.
What our family "did" was to challenge the enrollment committee in their action to shuffle another family's paperwork around so they would fall into the tribes moratorium. This family the Tosobol's were not related in any way. The 80 plus in the family had a right to be part of the tribe, like their uncles/aunts and cousins. They had all the proof required, but one member of the EC, Frances Miranda said there were too many of them. We fought, they got us out.
@dreadhellchild We didn't do anything to piss off the rest of the tribe. The previous year the tribe voted to outlaw disenrollment, kicking people out of the tribe, but the council ignored the wishes of the people.
On Nov.2, 2011, I had an article published in the San Diego North County Times newspaper, page A-8, about this issue. There was never a response, positive or negative, from either side. They have the people scared, and nobody dares to say a word. Just this week Rincon Reservation kicked out about 120 more members. These are small tribes, plenty of money for everyone. They will not spend a dime on substance abuse treatment, it is greed gone wild. Our ancestors are not pleased, it is ALL wrong!
@goodmedcin Are you sure it was at Rincon? The Pala tribe kicked out people recently. I hope that it isnt' true that Ricon, who owns Harrahs casino, hasn't done the same thing.
@goodmedcin I was aware of San Pasqual, Pala, and Pechanga, especially Pechanga as I have been disenrolled, but I didn't know Rincon was doing the same thing.

In addtion, the whole tribe voted the previous year to our being kicked out of the tribe to outlaw disenrollment, kicking people out of the tribe, the procedures to act agaisnt our family no longer existed as a part of tribal law so a duly passed law by the people, the final authority in tribal government, was violated.
The problem is if a tribe violates its own laws, then who can make them abide by them?
The people of the tribe? Well they all got a raise in their casino profit share.
Chairman Macarro says, "as tribal leaders we take seriously our responsibilty for guaranteeing fairness." Well the same people who accused us were the deciding votes in the case against us, which viotated the tribe's constitution and bylaws, which is supposed to protect people from malice or predjudice against them. The people who were the deciding votes were also close relatives of witnesses against us and should have been recused from ruling on our case, but were not recused. So no fairness
I am sorry, but it isn't about the "Money!" It's about our "Heritage and Birthright," and the not being able to visit our ancestors and mourn their loss, kicked off our land, allotted to us on the reservation back at the turn of the century by Pres. McKinnley, and our children forceably removed from the Tribal School and never allowed back. We can prove who we are, legitimate members of our respective tribes. Like if you were physically throw'n of the land you owned, and told to never return.
If these people were recieving each over 20,000 dollars a month now disenrolled they say that there broke trying to make ends meets well where all those millions go not to smart with their money as far as this family being broke i have no pity but if they are pachonga then they are being ripped off by the band counsilors & chief for greed!!!
This is all to common in Indian Country, and the "Government (Indian Affairs) routinely turns a "Blind Eye and Deaf Ear" to the plight of the Native Americans in their charge: For their is no money in helping the " Opressed Native American!" And it is said to say: It's all about the "Money!"

One has to ask, "what did the family do to piss off the rest of the tribe to get kicked out?" Tribal politics and the drama associated is universal.
