@Danielcaie92 the reason Bruno went to work for Vinick was because he was a once in a lifetime kinda senator, a Republican who was respected on not only both sides of the isle, but also with independants, and because Vinicks politcal stances was on the same side as 60% of the voters and had the potential to win all 50 states.
@LestatandBerial Yeah I don't think we'll ever see a Republican like Vinick in real life, especially not the way the GOP are acting these days. A lot of his views and policies were commendable. However he was, as all Republicans are, blinkered with his views on where the federal government began and ended. Double the border patrol but not have a healthcare or education plan and instead leave it to individual states?

There's something about the West Wing, and Aaron Sorkin generally, that bothers me. I think it's because the climax is always someone on the left finally standing up and calling Republicans names, like the climax of The American President.
It's never about the actual arguments, it's about the courage to demonize your enemies. And that isn't very courageous...or accurate in most cases.

Maybe some of us wish that someday, they will discover they have a backbone, and say "No more". Maybe then we can have an equal contest for once.
@nfinn42 I'd welcome an equal contest of ideas, but the democrats have not been spineless when it comes to calling Republicans names. I can't oppose the minimum wage without being told I hate black people and the poor and I love evil corporations...and so forth. I've never had a debate with a Democrat that didn't involve them questioning my motives.
There's a debate on youtube between Dennis Prager and Stephanie Miller that makes a lot of good points on this topic.

Think about that for a moment. If you can do THAT and get away with it, what can't you get away with in an attack ad? How is one to seriously make the argument, "well, the voters want nice politics" when clearly, smears WORK?

First time I ever saw him act was on west Wing and he shined in every scene he was in. He was not a main character and yet he had a huge impact on show. I was very sorry to read about his passing.
