You'll need to add a geographic information asset (shapefile, geodatabase) to the table to contents within ArcMap first before the edit toolbar is activated. You'll need to have permission to modify the GIS layer as well.
I haven't worked with ArcMap in a while, and when I add the editor toolbar, I cannot hit start editing. How do I activate the toolbar so I can turn it on?

hello, you should check out Everest-gis 2.0 its way easier to use and you dont need a college degree.... watch out videos...
