I have no issue with the current Yes, but I much prefer Jon's version of this. For a start, it's at a tempo that's nearer the original. This is a nice jazzier version of the song. Liking it muchly \m/
I was very fortunate to work with Jon for 4 years as a keyboard session player/arranger from 1988 to 1992 working on his solo projects in France and Los Angeles. He was and still remains an inspiration.
This concert is the most passionate performance I have ever heard of Close to the Edge, clearly Jon is unwell but I can see he is thoroughly enjoying himself. A great ensemble of musicians, 4 cellos, who would have thought! Amazing.X
Terrific! Poor Jon is sounding a little pained, but nails it most of the way...especially at the end. Emotional performance and fresh arrangement...even in this lower key they're playing it in
Very moving powerful video. Imagine being there.wow! It shows that Jon is YES. Chris Squire dropped his marbles when he dropped Jon. Jon is stronger than ever with his career and his health and it just shows that good things happen to good people!
What a cool treat! I had no idea Jon Anderson performed this material with these arrangements. Blows away the new incarnation of "Yes" by leaps and bounds imo. Where as they sound old and tired this has a joyous lively ambiance to it. Great stuff!
Jon still sounds great! Like this isn't good enough for Yes now? That's bullshit. They miss each other. He sounds great, but these studio cats just sound too stale reading the sheet music. No - they're not bad, but they lack SO much of the feel of Yes.
"He sounds great, but these studio cats just sound too stale reading the sheet music. No - they're not bad, but they lack SO much of the feel of Yes."
The band is actually pretty tight, if a little reverential. They do themselves proud as does our Jon.
Very good, for a guy who isn't good enough to tour with Yes. They sound dreadful, he sounds older. But I'd rather listen to Anderson age gracefully than his former friends age disgracefully.

The 1st album I ever bought as a young 13 year old in sunny slough. Still the greatest piece of music ever. Cant understand why it does not command the same level of grandeur as Pink Floyd. As good as Floyd were they were never a patch on Yes, but then again nobody was or ever will be
Jon Anderson is my absolute hero. I've loved and followed his music since the early 70's. I question anyone who says he's Jons no.01 fan cos he aint - I am. Jon, may you live long and make beautiful music till the big man calls
@hannaheagle Sorry to break it to you... I am Jon's no. 01 fan :) A week doesn't pass that I don't play an album he has been part of - YES, solo albums, Jon and Vangelis, Kitaro, and any other miscellaneous projects. I agree with you. He is a hero and at times a godsend. Long live Jon and his brilliance! peace.

Anderson really seems to blossom out as a creative spirit without sourpuss Chris watching over him. Damn it all, I know the original Atlantic release as well as anyone, but this is bloody good, and in some ways better than the original.
@CentralScrutinizerxx What utter garbage you typed there. Jon just recovered from nearly dying the year before this was recorded, hes over 20 years older than the new Yes singer, have you seen the latest reviews for the Yes tour? Overtly negative, but of course, you can carry on listening to someone who tries to copy Jon but fails miserably and the buggles keyboard player. If you want to see how good Yes are playing this tour, watch Heart of the sunrise in Canandaigua NY.
@franco9563 "Above all things, Jesuits are 'confessors'. Their services unto the royalty were urged as a 'need', as they became assigned to hear the confessions of the aristocrats, emperors, kings, queens, princes, princesses, ['royal'] mistresses, those in every level of government -- they all revealed their secret plans, their intimate sins, their inner-most thoughts, as their lives became virtually an open book to the Jesuits.

@franco9563 "In the agreement to rescue Rome [i.e., the Roman Catholic Church's hierarchy] from the predicament of losing its world control to Protestantism, and to preserve the spiritual and temporal supremacy which the popes [had] 'usurped' during the Middle Ages, Rome now 'sold' the [Roman Catholic] Church to the Society of Jesus [i.e., the Jesuits]; in essence the popes surrendered themselves into their hands." John Daniel
he can still sing but yes is yes and thats it. New album new line-up. going to see them in camden on monday should be awesome. Jon's solo work has allways been good but i cant listen to this. steve howe would be horrified and rightfully so.
That is, if he would want to return, as from my perspective, he's doing quite well in his current pursuits. It's the band's loss if he does not re-join, not his.
My wife and I recently attend a performance by Jon at the Victoria theater within NJ PAC in Newark NJ. An intimate setting with great acoustics, and Jon was absolutely fantastic. I grew up to the music of Yes, but never had a full appreciation of how much of the creative force existed within Jon. He is truly inspirational. We saw the current "Yes" band last summer, and while beautifully reproduced all their old favorites, they will never move forward creatively until they welcome Jon back.
fantastic...much better than the current "YES-less" Yes without JA. There are clear limitations in his voice since the Asthma attacks. But he does the professional thing and sings within those limitations. His voice is rich, and expressive. I can hear the passion for the song. He's not walking through it, compared to clips of YES-less doing this song at HoB...this is far superior vocally. plus i like the pacing of this version very much - more uptempo, particularly the last movement

Jon is unbelievable the greatest poet/ lyricist of the 21 century, but still he gets no recognition, it's such a shame. I searched the name Jon Anderson in YouTube and variety of songs Jon has sang with YES and a whole host of other musicians is amazing, but still it's not enough to be inducted into the rock n roll hall of shame. I asked my wife why and she simply said that he doesn't care, he will get his recognition in Heaven, well I care it's a travesty of the highest order and for one it p
Ok. Benoit, now that we see Jon is fine, would you please quit Yes. The band thank you infinitely, some fans as well (sorry, not me), but your time has come to leave the band and pave the way for a possible reconciliation between some old friends. Hope you enjoyed that unnecessarily prolonged karaoke Yes tour. Keep practicing, read some interesting books, and compose some lyrics of your own, who knows, maybe you will be the front man for YES chapter II, only after Jon decides to retire for good.
A thousand times better than those "faux-Yes" shows the band is trying to pull off with that pathetic karoke lounge singer. Jon's musical beauty is highlighted by this excellent back up band. I'd love to see Jon tour with a band like this.
Man, give it a rest. Every Yes fan loves Jon Anderson and what he brought to the band, but it's seriously time to move on. Jon seems content doing what he's doing, and Yes is coming out with an album that, based on the samples, sounds very fresh, exciting, and energetic. Let it go.
