Many of them acknowledge this, and they just have fun abusing most of the game code and bad AI. You learn a lot about the game this way.

Tool Assisted Means that he uses tools usually found on an emulator to slow the game down and save state in case he makes any mistakes. Usually slowing it down to frame by frame so there's no room for error.

i play as Zangief on Capcom v. SNK 2. Zangief, E.Honda, Blanka, Ryu and Rock and occasionally evil Ryu and maybe rarely akuma. But i use Zangief even in street fighter 4. He's very good and pretty easy to use. I had super street fighter 2 for SNES but i didn't know how to use him, i learned on Capcom v. SNK 2.

Bottom line, Even though zangief is slow he is very powerful if he grabs you. I'd say Zangief is one of the BEST characters in Street fighter also one of the easiest to use.

Zangief has terrible matchups against Seth, Sagat, and Claw, and hard matchups against some others like Akuma or Sim. Even Elf can dominate the pace of battle vs Gief. Any opponent that has trained enough know how to counter or at least avoid SPD or Lariat. Of course Gief still has great footsies, a wondrous Green Hand and an almighty Ultra, but characters that can teleport or walljump can keep him away most of the time. Gief can't win easily, even in good matchups (Rufus, Honda, even Dan).
