  • I'm confused, I've seen this done your way, then I've also seen this done, where the whole numerator is instead multiplied by the numerator, then divided by the denominator!!

  • @Thkmra choose the way that works best for you. Of course, I think this method is the easiest. That's why I made this vid...

  • me and my cuzin r goofing off on this video we r going 2 the office lol

  • thank you so much you should be payed millions for doing this.

  • Thank you for makeing this video

  • Thanks so much keep making more educational videos cause you rock

  • Thanks! ;)

  • thanks

  • What hapeens if only 1 of the problems had a whole number what would u do!

  • Can you explain cross cancel when are you able to do this

  • @LyveManagement please watch my cross-canceling vids...

  • REALLY!?!?! REALLY!?!?! I fail at life... Thank you sir for doing this, I can now do my home work properly.

  • Why do you cross cancel 3 & 5? How did you get that result? Why not cancel 7 & 5 first? If i knew why you cross cancel those 2 numbers i can better understand what is being taught , thank you .

  • Thanks a lot trying to help my son and it's been about 25 years since I did this. :)

  • I've applied for the Electrical program at a college where I live, and I forgot that I need to know this... I haven't done these in 7-8 years, its a shame that I didn't learn this when i had the chance. Either way, these online tutorials helped me a great deal, today, and yesterday. Thank-you so much for taking the time to do this, people like me appreciate it very much! lol

  • @murleyspatch thanks and good luck!

  • As the user said before me, I'm nearing 20 and I need to relearn all this math for my new job and your tutorials are a massive help! Thanks

  • man my teacher sucks at explaing this

  • WOW, waaay easier. My teacher makes it complicating

  • I just added this to my favorites LOL!!!!!

  • thanks so much, im in 6th grade and should know this but in math i used to be in the honnors group but now im not doin so good so im trying hard to get back on top with grades

  • @luvdancing224 good luck!

  • man you are a great teacher. the best I've seen on here. You talk very plain. Thank you.

  • @ncboy65 thnx 4 the comment

  • @northstar15 thank u

  • I am starting a math test but I never understood my teacher when he showed me how to multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers. I'm afraid I'll fail and so I'm looking up videos on how to do this stuff. I still don't quite understand it after viewing your video, though. It's not you, it's just that I'm and unteachable. A.K.A, dumb when it comes to math. :( Help!

  • @emmekinz Nobody is unteachable...you may be over analyzing here. When mult fractions, all you do is multiply across--first the numerators, then the denoms. Then, you simplify, if necessary. If you are working with mixed numbers, change them to improper fractions first, then proceed and change your answer back to a mixed fraction at the end if your answer is an improper fraction.

  • why do teachers teach so wierd and youtube teaches better..........or maybe i just dont pay that much attention..............XP

  • Thank you for posting your videos On youtube. They are easy to watch and easy to learn from. I put you on my favorites. Keep up the great work. Im going back to school and I need a good refresher before going back so I don't look as dumb as I am. :)

  • @Kaylaandpookie thnx for this nice comment and good luck!

  • finally i get it now

  • YES! HELL YES!

  • OMG Whoever made this video thank you soo much i got hte answer i learned this in school but never got it GOD bless you and thank you GOD and Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you so much... now I can help my daughter do her homework.... : D

  • thank you soo much i needed this because i didnt understand my H.W. last night.

  • this is so hard

  • these youtube people put it so much more simply than my math teachers.

  • Thank you,helped me a LOT!

  • Thanks for the help on my homework :D

  • i did not know how to multiply mixed numers now i got it...tank you for the video

  • @HannaMariyamMathai you're welcome

  • @HannaMariyamMathai tank? thank

  • i dont understand in the part of 1:08 to 1:11 i dont understand why the 21 turned into 7....

  • @ayaka10ful 3 times seven is twentyone

  • @ayaka10ful he used a term called "Cross Cancling" basicly, he takes the 3 and divides it by itself. 3÷3=1. so thats where the 1 comes from. he then takes the 21 and divides it by the original 3, 21÷3=7 and gets that 7.

  • easy

  • bitch

  • thnx it helped a lot

  • im always ok until the teachers want to do that cross cancel bs, i hate that soo bad lol.

  • @jayvenomo then don't do it--just simplify at the end

  • at 1:38 you made a mest up nine

  • 133,556 people didnt understand their teachers in mathematics :P

  • @krish32e1 funny...

  • @krish32e1

all my teacher did was put movies on in class...

  • Yah but this kid hes like a teacher 2 me

  • ummm what

  • ugh omg im doing this in 6th grade too and she didnt even freakin explain it! this helps alot.

  • Thanks for helping!

  • Thank you! I googled how to do this, but watching your video was MUCH MUCH easier!

  • @gussybug thanks!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH, GOD BLESS YOU!! =)

  • youtube is a better tutor than those 30/hr guys.. thanks@

  • How did i get here?

  • This is more easier than my teacher's method...THANKSS!!!!I'M SUBSCRIBING

  • cheers man :)

  • thx so much it saved my life:)

  • You! you are so calm and laid back!!! my teacher is bubbly and does math REALLY fast! I hate doin this in 6th grade!!!

  • @DCtimebandit well, it's a video and I can take my time--thanx for the comment

  • i mean how did u get 1 from 3 ??

  • how did you get the 3 ,when u was reducing...pleaseeee answerrr =/

  • thank you sir. The catholic high school entrance exam was made easier because of you.

  • @evilplaya25 thanks...good luck

  • Not much up on here??? I personally have 58 vids uploaded on this channel. I do believe I already have a vid on multiplying 3 fracts, either on this channel or on my second YT math channel, thirtysecondmath. In any event, the method is basically the same: multiply across, first your numerators, then your denoms, and simplify at the end.

  • what how is this i got 9 9/4 because 9 was my answer when i divided and pluss 49-40=9 i dont get it how did u get 4 i have a test coming up and i dont want to be all confused !

  • @sin9after9sin9 I don't really know how you got your answer. You are left with 49/5 as your answer before simplifying. Now, you must change this improper fraction to a mixed number. 5 goes into 49 9 times without going over. 5 x 9 is 45 with 4 left over until you get to 49. Therefore the final answer is 9 and 4/5. It seems like you might be confused when you are converting your improper fraction to a mixed number.

  • @northstar15 :thanks that really did help !!!

and i just get confused when u have to simplify the numbers ,but you should do a video on how to multiply 3 fractions ,i would really appreciate that since there's not much up on here

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks! Was able to help my 5th grader with his homework :)

  • 0:54 when you cross cancel can you just do 3 x 21 and 7 x 5 insted??

  • @MitchellBeazley No you cannot--that is cross-multiplying and is something completely different. Watch my latest vid on cross-cancelling...

  • Now I understand.Thanks! I hope I'll get an A for maths

  • OMG! Thx so much! Got it now!;)

  • thanks for posting this cuz i happened to not be paying attention for this in class

  • thax i forgot how to do it so its all good I am Dave! Yognaut and i have the ballz go check out yogpod everbody on itunes search yogpod

  • THX, now im definitely getting A or A * in my GCSE

  • I watched this in class :)

  • tnx., bcs my other solution is i need to reduce it into lowest terms. tnx u so much!

  • Thank you for posting this. It's been a long time since I've had to do this and had to refresh in order to help my son. We watched it too and it now makes sense to him! Simplicity is key. Thanks!

  • @brooklyn0125 thnx 4 this comment

  • omg thnks i dont get math but you make it so much simple thnks .... your awsome

  • but what if the cross-cancel numbers don't go into eachother? say 3 can't go into 7?

  • @lovemuffintop30 then you cannot cross-cancel and will have to work with these bigger fractions

  • Thanks

  • Thank you so much for this video. your the first person to explain multiplying mixed numbers so clearly, my maths teacher never gets to the point.

  • my math teacher made really hard to explain i was always stuck. he couldnt even help me! thank you sooo much for making it easy to understand.

  • So my teacher making me prepare for a meap coming this october and he gave us a packet and i dont understand half of the shit that in there!! He say it work from last year.. My ass my teacher never taught us this last year.. He havent taught us anything yet and only making us work!! It only about 2 week of school

  • @vietpi I feel your pain here. That's why I don't work in the public schools anymore

  • @northstar15 I remember everything i learn from last year by watching your videos :) Thx you I still cant remember my plots

  • @vietpi It's not that difficult kid. Wait until you take some calculus.

  • @mitroska08 meh nvm about that i remeber everything again. Just took a little warm up. Now i forgot my probabilty....

  • My math teacher explained this in so many different ways. This is so easy and I so get it now! THANKS.

  • @xoxstephyful thanks for this comment...

  • you can only cross cancel when the numerator of one fraction is a factor of the denominator of the other fraction, or vice versa.

  • Can you explain that using manipulatives? I'm taking Middle School Math in college, and I'm having a hard time explaining it using visuals.

  • can u cross cancel all fractions?

  • OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH :D

  • thankyou :D

  • Hi im in 7th grade and my teacher goes so fast i dont understand and when i ask her she tells me how but she goes so fast so i finally decided to do my own studying to find out my self and ur videos have helped me alot in school i may be good in my other subjects but not in math so thank you for helping.Keep posting videos or i wont survevy my math class Lol thanks again.

  • u should be my teacher

  • @Uniqua24 ha ha thanx...

  • @northstar15 hey how would i know which side to cross cancel

  • this is something i learned

  • Thank GOD U MADE THIS VIDEO!!!! I just got a worksheet on this and I was CLUELESS!!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

  • @northstar,im 13.i love your videos, they are easy to understand. im using them to help freshen my memory cuz school is starting soon. I was wondering if you could write the steps down in the description box. Just a suggestion.

  • @lindor609033 Hi Lindor--yes, I am in the process of doing that now--it may take a couple of weeks to get it all done--great suggestion. Thanks. Glad you like the vids...

  • thank you so much for making these videos

  • It is so easy to understand you.I just love it and I am only 11 years old.

  • i dont get how u change 3 into one plz reply bak

  • @RVpinoyStyle If you are talking about the cross-canceling part, 3 is a factor of 21, so you divide both the 3 and the 21 by 3. 3 divided by itself is 1, and 21 divided by 3 is 7. This process makes the numbers smaller and easier to work with. But you do not need to cross-cancel; you can just multiply across: 7x21 gives you 147 and 3x5 gives you 15. 147/15 = 9 and 12/15, which simplifies to 9 and 4/5.

  • @northstar15 thamk you very much u helped me alot

  • @RVpinoyStyle I'm glad my explanation helped. Cross-canceling does confuse some people and many teachers do not use it--you have to do what works best for you...

  • so it took me so long to learn this and i watch this 2 or 3 video and i understand it lol no i no how to multiply mixed numbers im talking about dividing decimals dats still hard for me help!!!plz respond to this

  • @thecharmedpowerful I can try and make a vid on dividing decimals, but it will take awhile--perhaps a week--before it's posted. The key to dividing decimals is to move your decimal in the divisor to the right as many places as you need to in order to make the number whole; then move the decimal in the dividend the same amount of places to the right. Then, you start to divide.

  • @thecharmedpowerful u need help with math im here ! message me n ill break it down.

  • thnx

  • Wow your better then my math teacher!!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

  • HOW DID 49/5 became 9 4/5 ?

  • @zhia099 the answer was changed from an improper fraction to a mixed number--5 goes into 49 9 times with 4 left over

  • @northstar15 thanks

  • @zhia099 @northstar15 you divide 5 by 49 then the result should be 9 because 5x9=45. then you subtract 45-49=4. then the answer is 9 as the whole number 4 as the numerator then just copy 5 as denominator. ok??
