  • I always preferred this to 'Blue Monday'. I bought the Peel Sessions on vinyl around the same time that I got PCL on cassette and loved them both.

  • @repose1983

Blue Monday, which I initially thought was great, has been so overplayed I can't stand the song now.

  • I never heard this version until today and I can't stop listening to it. A new favourite of mine for sure, thanks a million for uploading it.

  • YES COOL SONG AND WELCOME EVERYBODY ON YOUTUBE ZIRGLE AND THE WAVES

  • This version's the Daddy.

  • COOL TRACK , WELCOME ON YOUTUBE ZIRGLE ANDTHE WAVES ELECTRO SYNTH MUSIC

  • love the synthetic 'whip' snare in this...great sound and awesome start to the song too

  • My guess is that most people grew up knowing the version from PCL, but I was the opposite. I had this Peel Session on Cassette back in the 90s when I was in high school. I didn't buy PCL until I was nearly thirty. I like both versions, but this will always be my favorite. Like others have said, this version sounds like it is its own song versus the Blue Monday-like version found on PCL. Great, great stuff!

  • @Procopius1980

Indeed. But I was going PCL, what the f*ck is he on about ? Then the lighbulb in my head: "Power, Corruption and Lies". Well it was a long, long time ago...

  • @roddy76to86

It probably would have helped if I had put PC&L, which is a way I have seen it abbreviated in the past. Let me contribute my thanks for posting!

  • @Procopius1980

    My pleasure.

No problem, it was quite funny. My brain ticking over in bafflement, and then suddenly the answer was there !

  • @Procopius1980 we will talk later I hear you calling

  • all-time top ten New Order tune - IMHO

  • @Eisonhawk

    I'd say top three.

  • C(K)urtis, where are you, my friend?

  • Sounds less like Blue Monday than the album version. More of its own song.

  • Wow. Never heard this version. Opening synths are KILLER. I'm a life long NO fan, and Youtube allows me to discover new stuff by them. And this is by far the best that I had never heard before....

  • @RainPoetry

Yes, it is rather good, isn't it ? I've just listened to it myself, which I don't think I've done since I uploaded it over 2 years ago !

  • @roddy76to86 Forgot to mention: thanks SO much for uploading.

  • @RainPoetry

    My pleasure !

  • really surprised - never heard it. GREAT VERSION !!! thanks very much.

  • TRUST NO ONE, NOT EVEN YOUR FRIENDS. THE WORLD IS YOUR ENEMY!!!!

  • @movementsofhumanbody Thank you Mulder. X-Files finished some time ago.

  • far far better than the album version.

  • Much darker than the album version. I like it!

  • I like the PCL version, but this is New Order as they should have been!

  • fuck i had this on a tape yrs ago great song

  • This is off PCAL and not Movement, so doubt Peel effected the sale of Movement with his comments. Great track though, Blue Monday precursor, NO in full Moroder rip-off :)

  • Just noticed this ! JP was slagging some of the production of some of the songs on Movement, saying how bad they were compared to how good they were done on the session versions.

And yes, this song wasn't one of them.

  • i had the original taped off the radio for years ho ho much better than the album version imho

  • Some of New Orders 'Peel Session' work is fantastic. This is pretty cool stuff. Never heard this before. Many thanks :)

  • Well I remember JP himself saying he preferred their session versions to the album versions. In fact he positively put the boot into the versions on "Movement". I remember listening to him saying it on that particular show, and with his droll manner he just cracked me up completely !

  • @roddy76to86 who cares what he thought, he's just another person, i love the versions on movement

  • Is there anywhere one can buy this?

  • Try Amazon, that's where I got it, but a couple of years ago. It's part of a "Peel Sessions" CD, with some other great New order tracks.

  • There were 2 New Order Peel Sessions CDs released many years back. Each had 4 tracks. One was from their Movement period including Dreams Never End and ICBM. The second was from the Power, Corruption & Lies period and included this excellent version of 586.

  • Did Stephen Morris sing on one of the versions?

  • I'm afraid that I've got no idea.

  • no he didn't

  • Does he sing anywhere though? And do you know if it was him who was responsible for writing the musical arrangements for this song? Thanks.

  • I'm afraid I've still no idea !

  • from what performance is that still image?

  • I think it's from "Top Of The Pops", when they actually played "Blue Monday" live - a "privilege" allowed to very few groups, although I remember Sham 69 being allowed to play live so that Jimmy Pursey could shout to his Mum "Who's on Top Of The Pops then, eh?!"

But I'm probably totally wrong! It's perhaps a photo taken in the Hacienda Club.

Sorry I can't be more specific, as I just nicked it from Google.

  • You're spot on... it's taken from the appearence on Top Of The Pops when they performed a shorter version of Blue Monday live

  • Thank you. Always nice to get a bit of confirmation !

  • I love this picture (and tune lol).... It is from the top of the pops performance but I think it might be from the soundcheck or something 'cos Barney is wearing a different shirt!

Can you send me a copy ?

    :)

  • As far as I know there's no way of forwarding photos on YouTube.

But if you just Google "New Order", there it is, fourth from the left !

  • Ohh this is damn good! One of my fav New Order songs

  • its really good;D

  • its really nice! :D
