this is the bbc version and is a combination of two original songs "help you see it through" by gary and "still in love with you" by phil. after moore left lizzy to continue his solo career lynott re-wrote the lyrics and did not credit moore for his contribution as co-writer of the song although he is credited as having provided the guitar solo "nightlife". this was purely because brian robertson refused to re-record the part, arguing that it was perfect as it stood. hope this helps
@caribman747 This is a demo they made and very reminiscent of the recorded solo's he did on the '74 Lizzy album 'Nightlife'. The song had changed a bit by the time they recorded it a little later, and it even had Frankie Miller on 2nd vocal + different lyrics. Gary's guitar work on the Nightlife album version are truly inspired, both Lead and Chord wise. My fave work of his of all time. We've lost a great one, RIP - guitanorak
Like many, I re-discovered Lizzy after Jailbreak, not having kept up with them following Whisky in the Jar. (Well I was only 12 then) Taped a repeat of this show about 1978, lent the tape out, never saw it again. Very pleased to see this one. Saw them on the Bad Rep, Black Rose and Chinatown tours. Quality.
Many thanks for this and all that other fine Lizzy stuff you're finding to post.
Hardly. My modest collection doesn't rival a few others I know of. In fact, just yesterday, someone from Ireland who apparently doesn't like me decided to goad me saying he had a couple rare tracks and that I'd never get to hear them. Sucks to be me I guess, although if I'm not going to hear them, that means 99.5% of Lizzy supporters won't hear them either. It boggles my mind why certain people insist on keeping material away from fans; part of my enjoyment is allowing others to enjoy it.
It would make sense, but based on some of my comments about Hetfield/Metallica on other posts (most notably the live version of 'Whiskey' from 1980) it becomes quite apparent that I'm not.
I think Gary's ability is still there. Check his Red House cover for proof. He's got a bit heavier in recent times, but he can still do pretty much anything any other guitarist can do, only better. He's an ugly bastard though.
Hi widerthanone. Just a quick question (and no offence meant), but are you homosexual? I can think of no reason why Gary Moore's looks would be an issue. If yoy are, fair enough. I guess it would matter.
Hello Curlaz63. I'm wholsomely hetrosexual and of the opinion that one's arse is designed to be a one way street. There's still no doubting Gary Moore is an ugly bastard though. Relevant or not, surely you have to agree.
You sure you are hetro, as there ia only 1 reason i admire gary makes no difference what he looks like 1 of the best guitarist ever to grace this world, never came in to my head, but i am hetrosexual, you sure you are. Prick
Same. I like 'em both for different reasons. I tend to feel more for this one tho, being young enough to never had the chance to see 'em live, and this version being pretty common in scandinavia/first one I heard.
It is his voice! I have never heard this version. Thanks for this. BTW: the first words Gary sings here are at 0.30 "you haven´t got a penny". It seems his guitar-play is also included on this song.
The chance for the listener to separate the voices is quite easy: Not only does their vocal timbre differ immense... but also their distance to the microphone or their sound/mix is not exactly the same. Thanks again for posting! Cool version... but very strange :-)

I don't think he's that bad really, although Ozzy Osborne once said in Kerrang! that Gary had a face ''Like a welder's bench"
alisonH1604 2 years ago 2
Gary hasn't aged well...I'll say that. Still plays well though, and that's all that counts.

As I said, I don't think he's that bad myself, he's got a lived in face but his guitar playing is fantastic.

BTW, Gary's lead break here is BETTER than the very fine one from the "Night Life" album, in my opinion.
