My X4 955 would go up to 58 degrees when stressing my pc with P95 and furmark combined. That was a little on the high side for me (62 degrees max for this specific CPU). I lapped my processor and cooler with grains 600 > 800 > 1200 > 1500 > 2000 > 2500, about 100 times up and down without putting any downward pressure. With hardly any thermal paste used (i mean like 1:5 when using rice grain method) My temps went down by 8 degrees. (with Arctic Cooling MX2 though instead of scythe stock stuff.)
This definitely works. After watching this video I was motivated to get my arse down to the local auto parts store and buy some wet-sanding paper. My idle temps improved 2 degrees Celsius. Not bad. I didn't have the courage to lap the processor though, but after viewing some peoples' vids on youtube, that probably would have netted another 2 or 3 degrees cooler operating temps.

Wow glad I could help. A 2 degree Celsius change is a significant improvement. Mod on brother.
