@bigrussthefusss - Jerry wrote and played a number of songs that were down on drinking, Wharf Rat and Loser spring to mind here, and the bar scene in general, eg Crosstown Bar and Bertha and Fire on the Mountain. This is the only video EVER of Jerry in a suit so I think he was trying to make a point ie: "The thrill is gone, I'm free"  ;.)

Grisman plays a 1927 Gibson F-5 mandolin. It's the finest version of the mandolin and he is great at playing it.

You might be right about the particular instrument in the video, but Grisman is a noted collector and player of vintage instruments and does not, to the best of my knowledge "play" any one in the same way that Clapton, for instance, "plays" strats.

Garcia, for the most part, played Alvarez acoustics - I think this is an old Gibson hollow body in the video, but I think that was for looks, and is not what he is playing on the album.

I read that Grismans Mando in the video is probably a short necked Gibson F-10 converted to an F-5 scale. Jerry is definatly playing a Gibson archtop of some kind...

Nicely said. He was such a treasure. Jerry was comfortable and competant in any genre and musical style. From his folk roots and jugband, to rock & roll, jazz and bluegrass, and even latino music, he flourished with six-string guitar, five-string banjo and pedal steel to bring us to our knees with emotion. What a loss!

obviously not a buff. jerry himself was quoted more than once saying he hated singing and wished it wasn't needed. he only got confident about it after hearing Hendrix sing. he never once reckoned himself a singer, and I gather the same is probably true for Dawg.
