  • Damn.

  • one of my fav. musicians,go back to the grisman quintet sessions, those trips to the carlisle bluegrass festivalswhen a teenager ,who new, bill monroe, lester flatt, sam bush, the seldom scene, doc watson,i remember seeing marty stuart, maybe 12 years old , playing mandolin with lester flat,

  • Garcia went up in stock here. Brilliant sythnesis of country, jazz and Latin arrangement.

  • Love this duo, and with the great backup rhythm is tops

  • Im free- free- babe! Free from your spell

  • David Grisman gets the sweetest tones that I've ever heard. His mandolin tone is unsurpassed.

  • QUE MARAVILLA

  • kool....klassik w/ a twist.

  • Does anybody understand the beginning of the video? what does it mean? Its like a rich musician, finds his bum friend to make music? explain please, i think it looks cool, but im just not grasping it i guess, help me to understand, i want to get chills, lol

  • @bigrussthefusss - Jerry wrote and played a number of songs that were down on drinking, Wharf Rat and Loser spring to mind here, and the bar scene in general, eg Crosstown Bar and Bertha and Fire on the Mountain. This is the only video EVER of Jerry in a suit so I think he was trying to make a point ie: "The thrill is gone, I'm free" ;.)

  • Wow.

  • Jerry rocks the Gangsta Lean !!!

    1930's Gibson Super 400 ???

    Schweet !

  • Cool video,5*

  • Such a dynamic duo. Kindred spirits just merging in the most fluent way.

    Thanks.

  • Perfecto.

  • The video is amazing...

I can smell the smoke from here...

    step back in time...

the stuff between 2:05 and 2:45 is classic...

it reminds me of a movie, but I cannot remember the name of it...

I am not sure the music in stereo on this though...

    great stuff though.

  • If anyone ever asks you to define great music show them this.

  • wow!

  • fucking sweet dude!!!!!!!

  • Two great musicians bouncing off each other and having fun at the same time-- how much better does it get? Thanks so much for posting this. I love it!

  • it takes 2 to tango, if David didn't feed it, someone else would have

  • very very nice!!!

  • I wish you could vote 6 stars on youtube, just for videos like this.

  • such a cool song! I saw this song more than five years ago and I kept it in my memory. I just bought the CD and only after that I remembered I can see the clip on YT. Cool and elegant !

  • What a TREAT this was to see! Thanks SO much for doing what you did to load it here for all to see! You were right - it's awesome; great song; great talents. Instead of complaining about it here....wish those who did could just sit back and enjoy the incredible musical ride!

  • I can't believe how much I miss Jerry. He was THE BEST!!!

  • Thanks for the upload! Didn't know about this one.

  • fu$%#^ amazing!!!!!

  • Outstanding... playing it over and over again while watching Fletch. ohhhhhh the memories.

  • good

  • La classe au service du talent.

    Tout bonnement génial !

  • This is a classic movie, it sows who they are and the audiance they could have had, had they cared to. Fucking brilliant!

  • jerry should have always dressed like that

  • This is fuckin awesome...Jerry and John havin fun...Jerry and John spent alot of time together there at end of Jerry's time.

  • Dave i mean ....wtf am i thinkin

  • You just know that Jerry couldn't wait to get this over with so he get out of that suit & tie

  • OMFG I LOVE it!!!! Where did this video come from? Wow, the thrill just never goes away :.)

  • i love the beggining and end of the video very nice

  • So show us how you think it oughta be done, munit1954. Sour grapes?

  • Smooooooootthhhhhh!! One of my favs = )

  • Grisman was a pioneer in bluegrass music when he created the David Grisman Quintet, open up your mind and your ears you lame fuck.

  • indeed

  • Yeah and I bet Jerry was real upset too.

  • WOW this is awsome! i had no idea jerry did this kinda music, and i never heard a mandolin play that kinda style of music. Fuckin awsome. RIP Jerry

  • man, what are you on about ! this song and the entire album is a brilliant collaboration or two amazing musicians. They both get their fair share of solos, Jerry does some great vocals, and no way is David Grismans mandolin playing boring or repetitive !

  • Love this cover version. Neat retro video. RAW

  • i miss jerry:(

  • Hey come check out our new grass vids!!!

    smokin hot ;)

  • By the way, that's ricky Jay with the cards. He started card throwing. Amazing card technician.

  • muy bueno. un fan de jerry argentino. david, un maesrtro

  • Awesomeness! Man alive was that sweet

  • I think this is a great video, ever seen Dave Matthew's video for Crush? Its no mystery what his inspiration was there.

  • Great song, silly video.

  • I agree. I love Jerry so much, but the videos....they hurt.

  • WOW. Speechless. I never saw the video until today.

    100% perfect!

  • Grisman plays a 1927 Gibson F-5 mandolin. It's the finest version of the mandolin and he is great at playing it.

  • You might be right about the particular instrument in the video, but Grisman is a noted collector and player of vintage instruments and does not, to the best of my knowledge "play" any one in the same way that Clapton, for instance, "plays" strats.

Garcia, for the most part, played Alvarez acoustics - I think this is an old Gibson hollow body in the video, but I think that was for looks, and is not what he is playing on the album.

  • [Gibson hollow body in the video, but I think that was for looks, and is not what he is playing on the album. ] That's because all true bluegrass musicians play vintage Martins. XD

  • HA tell that to Tony Rice!(SCGC player)

  • blues mandolin XD they are just amazing

  • This album is one of my favorites. Does anybody know what brand mandolin that is? It looks like Jerry is playing a Guild. It says alot about a musicain on what they choose to play. What they prefer is interesting.....

  • I read that Grismans Mando in the video is probably a short necked Gibson F-10 converted to an F-5 scale. Jerry is definatly playing a Gibson archtop of some kind...

  • jerry was a jukebox of great music, and by that i mean that if it was heartfelt and good....jerry knew it!!!!! so sad to see a musical genius slip by so many ignorant hands. he was a lover of good ole classical music...bluegrass,folk,country,r&r....jerry, lay down my dear brother, lay down and take your rest, please lay your hand down on your saviors breast, i love you, oh but jesus loves you the best and i bid you goodnight, goodnight, goooooooooooooooodnight

  • Wow, I forgot how much I miss Jerry and the whole scene.

  • Justin Kreutzman, made this film. Talent must run in the family!! Top 2 for sure!!

  • Jerryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...............So Cool!

  • I rember seeing this video on pbs when it first came out in the late 80'S?? I was in Junior high....I was hooked...It was so refreshing amidst the schwag 80's hairbands... To all who are hating on Jerry and this video as the Buhist say there is no wearing out of ignorance....

  • so true dude. i'm 14 and i found this in my dads CD collection. its in my top 10 no doubt.

  • Nicely said. He was such a treasure. Jerry was comfortable and competant in any genre and musical style. From his folk roots and jugband, to rock & roll, jazz and bluegrass, and even latino music, he flourished with six-string guitar, five-string banjo and pedal steel to bring us to our knees with emotion. What a loss!

  • ty love this vid..LOVE JER miss him n DAWG is well DAWG is the man MONDO MANDO~scope that jewel.

  • If it's not what you expected oh well, it's magic to me. The Dawg is the best in his trade and Jerry touched the Soul to most of his fans like myself. Miss you JERRY !!!!!

  • How cool!!!

  • I have to disagree. I like Grisman very much, but the solo work is minimal and vocals are embarrassingly bad. Alas, that instrumentalists like this think they can sing!

  • obviously not a buff. jerry himself was quoted more than once saying he hated singing and wished it wasn't needed. he only got confident about it after hearing Hendrix sing. he never once reckoned himself a singer, and I gather the same is probably true for Dawg.

  • Jerry had the sweetest voice ever! It's all about the soul not perfection.

  • Is this the video Grisman is suing over? What a control freak. Sounds like Garcia's solo is edited out of the mix. Have to have a look at the DVD (which I own) and see how it sounds there.

  • Garcia/Grisman was and is a great album

  • The director of this video, Justin Kreutzmann (son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann) was amazed at Garcia's professionalism for letting them trim his beard and hair and dressing him up. He looks and sounds great in this.

  • All I can say is WoW!!!!

  • coolest lookin set of blues bro's I"VE ever seen...f'ing amazing...the thrill is most certainly gone away.

  • the thrill has definantly gone away... thanks!

  • One of my all time favorite songs and versions. Wow and wow!

  • one of the best videos Ive seen, love these two great players togather!

  • The Thrill is gone!

  • That was kick ass! Thanks for sharing :D

  • amazing!!! Thank you Jerry!!

  • The fat man is missed.... this is diggidy, thank you!
