@Annad8624 I really don't mind with females in the military, as long as they can keep their composure and do the job, I'll fight and serve along them. If I'm bleeding to death and she can carry and drag me back to safety then they should have every right to serve and fight.
@jn45672 I hear ya. I'm just an old fart who never listened to that inner voice to join the CG back when I was able. Might have saved alot of injuries over the next 24 years. Went in the AF instead to pursue a law enforcement, then medical career. Still doing both in the civilian world now, with a little diving to boot. Getting too old to do anything like this though. These folks, along with USN swimmers and PJs are truly the best of humanity.
@jn456721:35 may be busy, I 'll answer that question for you if you haven't already found out. He currently wears an inflatable flotation device called a Trident. It is special made for that kind of service. These guys are excellent swimmers and athletes as you probably figured out. The Trident allows them to go under water as needed whereas a regular life jacket would kinda get in the way by forcing them to remain on the surface. It is also a combination rescue body harness.
@Tillman787 thanks for the info, yea your right, these guys are in a different league, im goin through a commercial aircrew course meself which involves swimming and the standard has to be pretty good, but not up to this standard, i woudnt be near as good as these guys in geal force winds in open water, balls of steal!!
considering life jacket, i would need one in these conditions.
OH, jUST SO YOU KNOW I contacted Admiral PAPP. His office told me that the Coast guard motto is "SEMPER PARATUS" ALWAYS READY.. PERIOD !!!..and that ANY OTHER motto is UNAUTHORIZED !! and that they agreed with me, that it is DISREPECTUFL for the Swimmers to use the motto of the PJ's, That changing ONE WORD, does not make it alright for the swimmers to use that motto.." IT DISRESPECTS THE COAST GUARD AND THE AIRFORCE PJ's TO DO THAT, AND WE WILL LOOK INTO IT"- ADMIRAL PAPP. At least he has HONOR
@TheBabbygirl16 U dont know what ur body will be like in a couple years. Im 15 and i had asthma but now i dont and havnt had problems for 4 years and i am actually a good runner now so hey wait and see. my advice is try and do a lot of cardio cause it actually helps a lot. If you want any advice for ur situation just message me and ill help u out
@TheBabbygirl16 Chances are you probably won't get to. Sorry, but if you can't even run, then I highly doubt you'll get to join any branch in the military.
@wbvp You are an immature person who has no idea what happens in either the Air Force or the Coast Guard, but you would probably come back with some other cut, copy, paste comment that demeans both services. You are probably an overweight, pizza eating, human garbage disposal who sits around playing WoW listening to emo music with no life, no job, or girl. Don't disguise your frustration with stupid comments. Please don't waste people's time and just kill yourself. Die a horrible death F@gg0T.
@wbvp a family member of mine has been both USCG and now USAF (129th CSAR) and I can tell you this: I wouldn't want to cross either a rescue swimmer or a PJ, they are all hard men but are suited for different things. Maybe that's why they occasionally perform joint operations?
That being said, its only thing to jump from a C130 with 4 of your buddies and a zodiak as the PJs do... and it is an entirely different thing to jump into a raging sea by yourself with just a snorkel and you suit.
@lincolnrileylola Please don't get too worked up over wbvp. This is probably the most excitement he has ever had, trying to piss off the real thing. Here is my number:580-471-3058. You keep it in case you are ever passing through southwest Oklahoma and need anything, at all. That goes for anyone even remotely associated with the AST profession. As for wbvp, get a life and you can have my number as well, but obviously not for the same reason. I'll be glad to entertain a discussion with you.
@wbvp I gotta ask...what qualifies you to pass judgment on the Coast Guard or anyone else for that matter. If you have been there and done that, fine. But I wouldn't bet on it. PJs and ASTs have probably the most difficult jobs in the world. Their missions are not exactly the same, so why should their training be? When was the last time you saved a life? Have you even done more than pass by when someone needed help changing a tire on the side of the road? Here's my number also...580-471-3058.
lmao...air force a.k.a "chair force". they don't do SHIT! i have a friend in the air force and even HE will tell me it's easy. don't hate on what ya can't accomplish, biotch. (:
Man I'm in the Air Force right now, TACP. It's definitely one of the more ballsier jobs but I fucking hate it (the people in it anyway). I'm counting down the days I make the switch to the CG. There's a few jobs in the AF that you will actually do shit. Unfortunately, I picked the one where everyone thinks they have a bigger dick than you and treats you like shit even after deploying and getting shot at every day. GAAAYYYY. GOD I CAN'T WAIT.
@jackasscopycat Kinda one of the reasons I really wanted to slip out the back door at my retirement ceremony a few years ago. You are appreciated, I promise. It just won't come from your chain of command. Thanks for being there and taking care of business and best wishes on your future career choices. Take care.
Is there training sites off of Cape Cod, i live in that area. Is your station areas flexible after you complete AST? joining CGlooking for a rating like this, if anyone has info please write back, thanks.
Location placement follows the guild lines 'you go where they need you' and especially with the CG because its such a small force. But if its what you wanna do GO FOR IT! ITS WORTH IT!
there's only roughly 300 in the entire coast guard.... you need to do some major fitness tests, including a minimum swim of 500 yrds in under 12 min (10 competitive) 100 push ups and situps in under 2 min each. 1.5 mile run in under 9 minutes (flat out run) 15 pull ups average and some other basic swimming and fitness tests including buddy tow. The navy has a very similar program and they both work in joint operations routinely.
CMon Everyone the only branches that you can even come close to comparing is the Army and Marines

@RickLectums That's false, there are Navy SEAL's that have asthma. Not trying to be a dick just stating the truth.

@wbvp lol.... they make diffrent branches of military for a reason...... u don't see the navy doing land assults or airforce running a sub
so that means coast guard does the sea rescue so that means they are automaticly the best...
