for all you people that say this doesnt work it does iv caught 3 rabbits in my backyard using one of these made from copper wire, good luck randomly setting one up where tracks are though.. you have to find a well used rabit trail and a spot where if you set it up they cant go around then there forced to go through, this especially works great when theres snow on the ground

I grew up in kettering and we used to hunt wild boar in the carparks of local shopping centres we used a method called " stuff to catch wild boar and other things in carparks and other places " its a medieval type of trap which i am not allowed to discuss so you will just have to work it out

He failed to point out that an animal will chew through a shoelace in a fairly short amount of time, and unless you check your traps on a half hourly basis, this method is pretty useless. If you want to make effective snares, carry wire.

or learn how to create a simple notch trigger and tie the snare to a bent sapling or branch. personally I don't use snares as they are to indiscriminate & if the animals paw is caught you can still loose it (they'll chew it off, leaving you an arm to eat). You can make a live trap using saplings & deadwoods & handmade cordage (if need be) in under 30 minutes. Sorta like a land based primitive fishtrap. Sure the kill need be made via hand, but that's the way of things.

If your not wearing tieup shoes, cordage is to easy to come by in a woodland area, lets look at the list of resources.

Smooth greenbark (like elm, ash, etc.).

Aren't these called snares? And the placement of that trap isn't going to catch anything. You need a narrow pathway to move the rabbits into it, otherwise they just go around. Snares are perhaps the easiest traps to make, but hardest to catch things with. This video underscores the necessity of good placement.

This is true in it's way but you don't always need a narrow gap to force a rabbit through. say if you're in grass and you can see rabbit tracks, place you're snare inbetween the paw prints because that's when the rabbit is in the air. if you place the snare ontop of the paw prints then the rabbit will feel the snare whilst it is stationary and get spooked and run away. although a narrow pathway would increase your chances, it is not a neccessity

You want your traps simple, expecially your triggers. I agree that spring based is good for most animals but not necessary for rabbits. Rabbits will pull and pull and strangle themselves to death. They don't realize that if they stood still and chewed on the cord that they would live.

yep, i think this is a technique everybody should know, for safety you know... but if i may add: hares, squirells, walking birds or other small creatures, always tent to take the easy way, so you can influence that. make the other ways hard to pass, then they will see your trapped way as the only one and will certainly take that way. offcourse its the best to put it on an existing trial, but when you cant find that, make sure the only way for the animal is to walk YOUR planned route.

Good info when in a pinch. A good idea when your going to be far enough away from civilization that you may need to hunt for food is to bring a roll of snare wire. It's cheap, and it works. It's best to set these on well worn trails. Rabbits/hares tend to make very distinguishable pathways and follow them when not fleeing danger a good portion of the time.
