Sure... But wouldn't a hitman not take the chances of hitting a vital spot near the groin area and instead double-cap somebody?
I mean, I understand noir movies couldn't show too much violence, but at least aim it at his heart, which is in fact a guaranteed kill most of the time.
i started seeing film noir movies andi just seem to become addicted... so far ive seen the third man, the big sleep maltese falcon double indemnity in a lonely place touch of evil out of the past... which film should i watch next?
@BornToDie90 you may see : detour, the lady from shanghai, gilda, they drive by night, the big heat, house by the river, the dark corner, panic in south street, shanghai gesture, leave her to heaven...
many websites have filmnoir detective mystery gangster slang! I review the lingo and slang so I can understand quickly what's going on!...sometimes I accentially use it myself ...but I try not to!
I guess the first neo-noir I saw was body heat 1981 kathleen turner as a femme fatale spider woman...then black widow with debra winger...(sci-fi has alphaville and bladerunner) so instead of paying 20$ to see crappy remakes...i explore film noir of 1940s-1950s etc...(my sci-fi 1950s are great too!)
ending this with the radioactive box! that burns the house down sent chills up my spine!...(i was born in 1965 and love sci-fi but a photo of veronica lake and alan ladd drafted me hooking me into film noir! but my old sci-fi friends dwell there like orson wells...lloyd bridges...ray milland...richard basehart...)
Good day to you gentlemen, I am doing a project on film noir and how it reflects issues in the society. What might be the essences of film noir should I look out for. Your opinions are very much appreciated. :)

once all my rent a bills are paid for this month i think im gonna amasse a film noir collection of biblical proportions, your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. respond to this post cuz i rarely go on tubeyou :p or not, up to you. id appreciate it though xxx
Michael Cimino is very underrated, Year of The Dragon (1985) is one of the best hyper-violent noirs ever, I think its where the Batman movies got their look from.
@misconduckt Yeah, not to mention: The Deer Hunter is one of the greatest, deepest war movies ever made. The only war movies I know of that may surpass it just a little, are Apocalypse Now and Elem Klimov's Come and See.
Tarantino is still a big amateur compared to the great directors like Orson Welles, Sergio Leone, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Cimino etc...
His films are entertaining, but I definitely wouldn't call them masterpieces. Pulp Fiction is - in my eyes - still the most overrated film of all time. But well... that's my opinion.
@LightStijn Tarantino knows how to handle a camera, but apart from taking, his movies don't do much, they lack the intensity of the ones by the directors you named.
@hankvoleur Exactly! You said it! His visual style is mostly professional, but that's only because he copies from the big boys like Sergio Leone. The soundtracks to his movies are always outstanding, but Tarantino didn't compose them. I can go on like this all day, but it all comes down to the fact that - in the end - all Tarantino really did himself is write the plot and dialogue, yet only Reservoir Dogs has a masterful plot. Kill Bill, for instance, certainly hasn't.
ummm, how bout no Ridley Scott... he's made only 3 good movies in my opinion, the rest are so so.
But Tarantino is great because he's advancing film from the original masters such as Coppola or Kurowsawa... i mean I don't think Pulp Fiction is the greatest movie ever made in history, but i think that by borrowing different styles, plots, and characters from old movies Pulp is a great movie and my favorite ever made
Great list, and great editing! However, I would argue (as many would) that "The Third Man" is a British film, not an American one.

I would put L.A. Confidential as the best among contemporary film noir. I can see John Garfield playing one of the leads.
The final shootout is in of the best in the history of cinema.

i think i would agree, with reservations...
Tarantino is great in his own way though, he may steal from tons of old films; but he generally puts together quite a fun movie in my opinion.

kyzzak, really? Thats cool!
Tarrantino 'steals' from alot of cool movies (I say that in the most respectful way possible).
Did you know his production company is called "A Band Apart"?
Thats named after Jean-Luc Goddard's film. A favourite of Tarrantinos

That last clip, at 2:39 where the lady opens the box, it reminds me of Pulp Fiction where Vince opens the suitcase and its glowing.
Very cool compilation
