  • YES! The only way to play contra is via the arcade. I wish it had super contra. That games a real ballbreaker. You won't beat that the first go.

  • Damn, I forgot to get this game...lol.

  • I like how you use the Gradius music in the background :)

  • @Angelostar88 Everybody loves Gradius. Such an amazing game. Best shmup.

  • I am looking for this game would game stop have it. I want to know how the voice efects sound on the ds in track and field.

  • Anyone still happen to see this around new? I missed it when it came out and can't find it around locally anymore. It is a must have I want for my DS collection!

  • try ordering it at EB or something?

  • @VideoGameAddict322 yeah ebay is probably your best bet, can get some really good deals.

  • contra rulz men!!!

  • i play the ps1 version and i just wich most complete compilation for the ps2...

konami has so many good arcade game...

    why konami?

    why!?

  • gradius was my favorite arcade game

  • good review alphanerd01 very professional. Hey gamers back in 2001 i stayed at a hotel in Florida and they had this cool Konami arcade where you're like a ship flying above a city 2-D so forward is moving up an theres all these enemy ships and mechs and powerups and a the end a huge ship is the boss battle it was way cool wondering if anyone knows what it was I actually went back to try and find the hotel again in 2006 but it was closed down!

  • Yes. Konami never disappoints.

  • im not suprised people got this for contra

becasue its the arcade version of contra 1 you get on this, and not teh nes version.

but im gna get this for most teh games being adicting and teh features 2, thnx for teh review

ps. why have people completely forgotten about the arcade game sin teh 90's they were very good and deserve re-releases on ds

  • Absolutely fantastic, so thanks for posting! I'm glad there's retro gamers out there that know how to throughly and properly review games. I just couldn't have said what you said better myself.

  • Rush-n-Attack was pretty kickass.

It's hard as hell and fun

  • CONTRA

  • Excellent review :-)

  • Ah Man AWESOME!! worth it for tutankham (or horror maze???) alone!! why wasn't this included in the PS version??

  • whoo time pilot i love that game

  • 30 bucks for gradius and contra? (Which is really all that matters in this compilation.... every other game is pretty forgettable) That's so not worth it.

  • You must do a review to the new Super Contra 4!!! (I´m sorry about my english)

  • qft

  • Worth =]

  • What's the ending music from? I loved it!

And the review was really good too. Good stuff, subscribed! :)

  • YES, it emulates the Ram check from gradius and has the music too!

  • TWINBEE!!!!! XD

  • What an absurd selection of games...

If they are going to put Contra on there, they should have put the arcade Castlevania (Haunted Castle in the US), Salamander (Life Force in the US), etc etc. What a let down.

  • Absurd collection????? It's got the first TwinBee game on it! Never released in the US before! And Haunted Castle is the WORST Castlevania game ever!

  • The arcade Castlevania is a great game if you like a strong challenge with no margin for error and precision gameplay.

  • Strong challenge? More like RIDICULOUSLY HIGH CHALLENGE. No lives, and you can only continue three times. I'd rather play TwinBee than Haunted Castle any day!

  • I can beat the arcade Castlevania on the machine. You just have to memorize it, like any other old-school platformer. The NES Castlevania's were never that wimpy themselves.

By the way, the trick is NOT to continue. You put all the credits in at once to get a large lifeline. True, this means falling into a pit is doom, but that doesn't happen unless you are really careless.

  • Seriously, Haunted Castle is about 10 times harder than the 3 NES castlevanias combined. I would really like to see a video of you (or anyone for that matter) beat that game without cheating. It is one of the hardest if not THE hardest game of all time.

  • poddy, it's truly not that big of a deal. Just avoid the ludicrous version that took away many of the special weapons... that was insane. Although that version can be beaten as well.

I can walk you through the game if you need help beating it. Feel free to message me. First thing you need to know is GET THE STOPWATCH and read a FAQ. If you miss the stopwatch, you're screwed.

  • There is a nifty option in this game. If you have two DS units you can set up the screen to be vertical on one of the units and play wirelessly using the controller on the 2nd DS unit. Works great for the vertical orientation games.

  • If you give it a few minutes, the TATE mode can feel like second nature. What I do personally is keep the top screen as the viewing playfield, flip the DS to the left, and rest the top screen on edge of my hand, between my thumb and index finger. Re-map the action buttons to X & Y or X & A and you're all set to go.

  • Good review, but the negative comment on the display has me wondering if you noticed the display options in the Pause menu. Yes, most of the games on this compilation were developed and displayed on vertical monitors, but the DS has viewing options! You can flip your DS left or right for the correct (TATE) aspect ratio. And it only takes a few minutes to get used to the controls when playing the DS sideways.

  • I did notice, and myself and the others I had play the game felt it just made gameplay feel worse, plus the point that the DS screen is small for arcade ports still stands.

Playing a schmup with the DS in the Brain Age book position is pretty much impossible, ect.

  • @Xexyz1337 I love that screenname. That is one of my all time favorite nes titles. Best sidescroller/shooter ever made. The end passcodes are spasmodic as well.

  • Good review.

  • nice review as always. ^_^ probably Contra and Gradius are the best games on this compilation.

  • yep

  • oh my god, Contra! up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start! lol memories...

  • LMAO

  • first comment, nice review man

  • loved it alot:)
