@SoCalDualSport According to Yakov Smirnoff you have to submit your jokes to the Department of Jokes in mother Russia. Perhaps you would have less problems w/ shandl1 if you had done so.
Helicopter had plenty of performance. DA was obviously not the primary factor in this accident. Sure density altitude plays a role... It does every time we pick one up off the ground. But DA didn't cause this. And who ever said that a helicopter flys by deflecting wind off the surface.. And hovering over an uneven surface will cause this. Cmon. That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. We practice slope landings all the time. Even a private pilot can handle slope operations. This wreck
Air density does not have any effect what so ever on how smooth or rough a takeoff or landing is. Air density effects PERFORMANCE and that's it. If this was caused by a lack of performance you would see them drop immediately after dropping below Effective Translational Lift (ETL). But that is not the case, they chose a piss poor landing spot, end of story. Oh, and as helicopter pilots, we like wind, it increases performance, so that takes care of that retarded response.
@reece45 "Commie pilot attempting to fly commie garbage............ What would you expect?"
I would expect degenerated capitalists to stop complaining about achievements of communist technology. Besides, at this point others have no helicopter able to land that high nor spacecraft able to return humans to earth.
@buddyboy138 -- The crash wasn't too bad ... but you can see at the end that they ruptured a fuel tank. They're gonna have a nice time getting it out of there (if they bother to.)
I like how, instead of showing the crash, what happened is basically summed up by the helicopter starting to go out of control then the video jumping to it in a ditch :D
I'm not even a pilot, and my first reaction was "umm, you can't land there, dude". It looks like he might have made it if he turned 90 degree clockwise.
i would never judge someone on something i know nothing about...but i am 99.9% sure the dumb asses on here calling this guy a terrible pilot have never even been in a helicopter in their lives and no video games do not count
@Vire70 Lets take a closer look, he clearly still had power available since he was still able to counteract torque with his TR (no LTE from max power). He was also able to hold a hover for 10+ secs as seen in this video, meaning he had the power to do so, regardless of the air density. He chose an uneven spot to land, thats why he crashed, not DA.
Even if it was altitude that caused it, he probably should have checked what his aircraft was rated to handle before he flew up there huh?
@hellcatdave1 Funny, I happen to know a thing or two about helicopters. If you think that him flying in the mountains forced him to land on extremely jagged and uneven terrain, you are a moron. A pilots first concern is the safety of his crew and his aircraft. If he can't land safely (obviously he couldn't), he should not have tried. Try to throw performance at me for this crash. If it was performance, it was his fault anyway. Weight and Balance and Performance are daily pre-flight checks.
@jaysk8er Sure, maybe a pilot error, but it doesn't make him a "Bad" pilot. Helicopters use air to provide lift, they push the air down so it can deflect off of a surface, if the surface is tilted, though, then it can tilt the helicopter itself.
@hellcatdave1 This is a joke right? You are trying to tell me that a helicopter in ground effect can be tilted by the the surface of the earth? 100% Wrong.
Helicopters lift is provided by the same concept that makes airplanes fly, Bernoullis Principle. Air moving over a rotorblade or wing is moving faster than the air going beneath it, causing a decrease in pressure over the rotor blade and an increase in pressure beneath the airfoil. Welcome to basic aerodynamics.
@jaysk8er you dont know how hard is for a chopper to go that high, over 9400ft. Actually that is about the only civilian chopper in the world that can go that high, but it is very difficult to manouver because the air is so thin. Only a few pilots dare to fly there. You don´t know physics and geography it seems, and the 17 that approve your comment either
@MrPaseante Absolutely agree. A helicopter is at risk of literally falling from the sky with such thin air which is an absolutely fact. I wouldn't want to do it.
@MrPaseante@MrPaseante Absolutely agree. A helicopter is at risk of literally falling from the sky with such thin air which is an absolutely fact. I wouldn't want to do it.
@MrPaseante You are wrong. Air density did not cause this accident. He was able to hover which is where helicopters pull the most pitch and power. If air density was an issue, he would have sunk to the ground when he left ETL. He crashed because he tried to set it down in a fucking retarded spot. To correct you, this was filmed at almost 18,000 ft. But thats okay because the MI-17 has a normal operation ceiling of 19,690ft. I may not know physics, but I do know aerodynamics and piloting.
@jaysk8er I missed the one on 19400ft but anyway it is air density what makes it very difficult to smoothly take off or land in those conditions. Then there was the wind as he was trying to land further to the left, not where he crashed. Finally if you think so highly of yourself I recommend you to go there and teach all those "noobs" what piloting is. You can make a nice living out of landing and taking off Lutkla, big man.
