The problem is that without cultural funding by the EU, and by individual European governments, American monoculture will sweep through Europe without any counterbalance. That is why there needs to be a role for the state.
Hannan's a cunt anyway. He is a placeman for the neutering of Europe as a power under its own steam, and rendering it subservient to the USA - and the stupid southern English pseudo-patriots lap all this shit up, unaware of how much they're being played.
That's it, exactly. And when someone comes along every 50 years and actually stands for something, the hypocrites' reaction is to shoot him down. Because they like "winning" better than the truth they claim to support.
I have that song in mind a lot when I think of the people that fall for this big government crap (no reflection on you!) I can't make anything rhyme, but I've been trying to come up with a set of alternate lyrics, entitled "Comfortably Dumb." :)
Also, "What a Wonderful World" - ("don't know nothin' 'bout nothin' at all...") and
"Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" would make good hymns, with soothing organ accompaniments, don't you think?
The title alone made me bust out laughing because I can hear (in my mind) Daniel saying those words as Gordy looks down in shame and scribbles more rubbish on his notepad. We Americans love watching this (and cheer) Hip Hip Hooray!
This man demonstrates a clarity of thought and expression that is unique in politics today. I had never heard of him until he presented Gordon Brown with a few facts. Fantastic. But how to turn his eloquence into action that stops the costly flow of beaurocratic nonsense spewing out of Brussels and Strasbourg?
The EU has all the trappings of a state but without citizens... the Constitution/Lisbon is supposed to solve that little problem !
It is also no longer a secret that the un-elected commission would like it's own armed forces as recently reported, the suggestion is that France and Britain surrender their overseas naval bases to EU control `to protect Europe's sea lanes´against China etc.
I'm sure the next war will all be over by Christmas !

I don't understand it myself, but I think it is something like a "treaty" among all the countries in the EU to be pretty much ruled by the EU parliment and dissolve borders.
Hey Danny what is your position on the last Lisbon Treaty ? ARE YOUR PEDOPHILES OF BELGIUM just an alternate lifestyle .. and are your baby rapers of Britain just another version of the Nanny State ? You know your appeasement in letting Muslim have 12 yo brides ?
Page 412 Article 21 of the Charter of the Lisbon Treaty is identical to Article 2-81 in the EU Treaty of 2004 and states, Any discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or any other factor is prohibited.
In all previous treaties, such as the Nice Treaty, there is a protocol which excludes paedophilia from the prohibition of discrimination (NJS 16 AUG).
Well how about you socialist EURO-TRASH DO SOME WORK ? Look It up ? I presume you know about you FAMOUS PEDOPHILE OF BRUSSELS .. you know the ones that want to be the world court ? OOH LA LA!
The EU should allow longer speeches. One minute (or sometimes 3 mins) is just not enough.
The fact is that debate and democracy is not encouraged, the "rubber stamping" of legislation is all that is required - for that role (and not causing trouble) you get the enormous expense account plus your generous salary and gold-plated pension.
We all know why the Union won't put the treaty too a vote. They won't because they know they will lose, and lose badly if voters were to allowed decide on their own future. Not even the French liked the first incarnation of the treaty. What does that say?
I think Olisipiensis is the latin word for Lisbon. though I'm not sure. If that's the case, it reads "The Treaty of Lisbon is going to be assessed/evaluated" with the implied and colloquial meaning "The treaty of Lisbon should/must be assessed/evaluated (by the people)"
It's none of the government's job to fund arts. If the people like it, they will pay for it willingly. If they don't like it, who is the government to decide it knows better?

I'd like to believe he's right, but aren't the powers that be in power precisely because the electorate CAN be won over by subsidies?
As far as most of governments goes, a cockroach will do what a cockroach will do.
If there's corruption, it's because the electorate votes for it. And they'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Excellent clip, stating the problem with the EU very succinctly indeed.

That must be the clearest and most precise attack on the ideology of tyranny ever to be delivered before a ruling body in under 1 minute.
The people should be very way when their government undertakes to regulate and direct cultural and social movements and institutions.

Isn't that what they did already by becoming the "European Union"?
Also, for a guy who praised decentralized government - v=t_Pa30Sp_sw#t=5m31s - that sure seems like a 180.

sustaincain, That was a link to a clip where Hannan was interviewed by Glenn Beck, and the "5m31s" makes it start the clip at 5:31 in the video.
