Isn't the whole point or robotics to do things without help of humans? From what I'm seeing the human did most of the important things. The bear just picked her up.
@emanthedragonchamp Nobody wants robots to fully replace nurses and other care workers. People in hospitals wouldn't like that much. Here, robots are expected to alleviate some of the stresses of the job, that's all.
@emanthedragonchamp Baby steps I guess. You build the technology slowly. Of course this product has no significant value as it is. But you have to start from somewhere. You can't reach the moon without learning to fly first.
This doesn't even seem remotely safe, no matter how far along in the development it is. It's large, stiff and needs assistance for it to assist... I can understand its use so medical personal don't hurt themselves, but this isn't safe for the patients at all for this point. The robot is very stiff and not that flexible.. It looks more like a modified forklift.
The "robotic bear" seemed to need a lot of help from the demonstrator and also it had to bend the patients back to lift her? Cool, but needs more work
Why do they pretend this works?

This is why japanese robotics found no use during the earthquake emergency earlier this year.

whats so hard about having a person doing this?
does Japanese women refute to be touched? that would explain a lot.

@boitahaki Try lifting an adult body an average of 40 times a day and then maybe you'll see "what's so hard" about it.

You know why that girl isn't reacting to the robot? It's because she's been driven into a catatonic state from pure terror.
Japanese-robo-rape is not as fun as it sounds guys, especially when it may be happening to Grandma in a few years.

They make small cranes for lifting engines already. Cheaper than this pathetic robot I'm sure.

Was anyone else spending the first half of the video trying to figure out if the woman was a mannequin or not?

@rachellemay111 It's been in development for several years and will be thoroughly safety-tested before it is actually used in Japanese hospitals.
