The M76 has a selector switch, and it has a positive mechanical safety built into the action. It also has a much higher cyclic rate, apx. 450-550 versus 750 for the S&W. The K is more reliable, I think, and it's simpler. Actually the main thing they have in common as far as I'm concerned is that the US wanted something similar in size and configuration.
Also, the K had provisions for higher capacity magazines, and could be easily fitted with a 75-round drum..

The ammo was Federal 147 Subsonic. The suppressor is just marked AWC and is over 20 years old. And yep, it is real quiet. It's not bad with transsonic 124s, either, as the ported barrel cuts down the velocity, but with the 147s it really shines.
Now, that's what I call a suppressor! It actually silences the gun!
