  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • This game was played on December 23rd, 1962. Oilers reciever Hennigan had 3 receptions for 37 yards in this game.

  • Any plans to add anymore AFL games or old NFL games?

  • This is NFL History, even though it was the AFL.

  • Never did I think that I would see this game again.I watched it at my sister's apartment, two days before Christmas that year. The reference to JFK attending a game was priceless.

I' also liked Stram's noting that they had brought the title back to Dallas-but not for very long as they left for Kansas City after that season.Perhaps the wrong team left town.

  • I love this! I have always loved watching old football footage from before I was born in '75 and see how much the coverage of the game has changed since over the years, even in my lifetime as well.

  • To KassackRock....Thanks so much, guy, for posting this game !! Tonight, I was watching "The Longest Game Ever Played" on the NFL Network, a look back at the Christmas Day ' 71 AFC Playoff between Miami & Kansas City....and, when the game went into OT, the narrator mentioned how Hank Stram & Len Dawson had been down this road before...and they flashed this very footage on the screen...awesome beyond words !! I never realized Curt Gowdy did both games !!! I was 10 that day in '71. Great memories

  • TheKassicRock do you/family have more tapes whit old games?

  • Thanks for posting this game. I love to watch vintage football films. This is great stuff !

  • during the years ABC had MNF, the Oilers/Titans hosted the Chiefs twice on the program - 1991 and 2004

  • I spend the off season watching old pro football broadcasts. I love it when I come across something like this especially since I wasn't born until 1967. There was a broadcast of the '61 NFL championship game on here, but it seems to have been taken down. Two things that strike me about this broadcast and game. Compared to NBC's broadcast of the 'NFL championship ABC was way ahead of its time. And second, despite what old school NFLers may have said this was a very well played game.

  • @TimmyH6 What exactly is it about ABC's coverage? And remember, this was the AFL we're watching, not the NFL.

  • We take instant replay so much granted today, but so odd to know if you missed the play, you missed it until the 6:00PM sports (if they showed it).

  • Does anynody know someone who has the 1968 AFL Championship game between The Jets and Raiders? Or Super Bowl V?

I need them for my collection.

  • Wow. it's amazing this was preserve since most of these pro-football broadcasts weren't saved and NFL Films wich inncidently began in 1962, didn't start filming AFL games till 1968, 2 years before the merger.

  • @MIKECNW Originally I didn't read the info above like I should of. Got excited and saw this at the library while in the mist of watching something else. But anyway, it's amazing you grandfather had the technology since most people didn't have home recording devices back then.

He's not the only one, somebody taped to first superbowl. The WSJ website has an article on it.

  • This tape was on 8 MM correct or 16 MM?

  • the best part is listening to the legend curt gowdy

  • Two teams from Texas, both 11-3, whio had split with each other, play 60 minutes and it's 17-17. Then they play 15 more minutes and it's still 17-17.

  • Only the 1925 championship between the Pottsville Maroons vs. Chi Cards is better.

  • That game was televised on ABC because at 1:54:45 on this video, there is a microphone with the old ABC-TV logo, the famous "Big A" logo on it.

  • @tbear4pa I thought the "Big A" logo was replaced in September of 1962 by the current ABC logo.

  • AWESOME! many thanks for sharing this supposed lost gem.

kinda makes you wonder what else could be out there. you ROCK bro.

  • Not only is this a great game, it is seeing the greatness of the AFL in its early days. I can't believe this original broadcast existed in your grandfather's collections. How did he record this? Just curious. Thank you for posting this great relic!

  • For the record, this game was done on NBC, not ABC. Awesome post though!

  • @ajk No this was ABC. NBC tended to air NFL championships then (even with CBS covering the regular season). NBC wouldn't air AFL football until 1965.

  • @HamptonRoadsTVFan Oh ok, I just assumed ABC had the game since Curt Gowdy was on the call it sounded like, and he as far as I knew worked more with NBC in his career.

  • @ajk Assumed NBC I mean, confused yet? lol

  • Nice seeing ANYTHING sports-related from this era that survived in fragments, let alone intact.
