I think this song has a lot of sorrow and sadness in it, but mingled with the regret and the anguish I can hear the sound of hope and strength, honor and love and bravery--all the things that make life, however chaotic and dark it may be much of the time we have on the Earth, beautiful and meaningful in the end. I think it is a sad sounding song because life is inherantly sad and emotional. Think about life, why it is the way it is, how it is, and we then realize that for some reason I've yet to figure out that life is painful. I can't remember who said it, but one said that "We are only here to cause each other tragic pain and discomfort." I wouldn't always agree, but generally, it may be true.
