This is in 1978 Jaco was in Weather Report group, but Jaco and Pat played together before at Berklee School in Boston , even.... that bass was a gift from Jaco to Pat , and he lend it to Mark Egan . When they split , Mark has to bring back that bass !  and this former Jaco's bass was stolen in a South American tour ....so I think Mark was heavily influenced by Jaco's play in Boston during those days , not just copying but a lot of bassemen, when they heard Jaco, went on the fretless style .
