  • Goonch is a very dangerous fish especially in some rivers in Nepal ! The become very big and killing people.

  • Where the heck did you get a Goonch for a pet?!

  • is it normal for it to be breathing that hard?

  • For all, who asked for getting a goonch catfish;

Just search ;-) . Maybe you can find some offers on Monsterfishkeepers. I think that getting a Goonch is much more easier in the US that here in Germany because most of the people here don't like predatory fish or "monster fish". But anyway I was searching for them and finally found them. Currently I own three Bagarius bagarius and one B. yarelli. But I'm looking for more, especially B. suchus. I really love this fishs! ;)

  • how big do they get in a tank and what is the minimum tank size.

  • @gavinrocks101

well, this species (Bagarius bagarius), the smaller one, needs a tank with a minimum length of ~51" (in my opinion). They are not active swimmers. Most of the time they're motionless.

But pay attention for the correct species. He're in Germany the small Bagarius bagarius are imported as Bagarius yarelli (the largest species) and Bagarius yarelli are named Bagarius bagarius. So most of the dealers do not know how to differentiate this rare catfishs.

  • how did u get a goonch? i want one really bad

  • This isn't goonch Catfish isn't it? But it's other species but from family Bagarius

  • @Eo1998 both are commonly known as goonch but this one is probably Bagarius bagarius, the smaller goonch. usually get to be about a foot long. the real "maneater goonch" gets over 5 feet long.

  • Cute!

  • well thats a really cool fish keep him updated.

  • please tell me where you got this catfish from, im in desperate need to get one, please please please

  • I hope that fish like this are banned in most places. the Snake Heads where brought to the States and people let them go in the Water ways. Now there eating everything in site around the Patomic.

  • @viperBSG

Bagarius are very specialized animals. They wouldn't survive in other streams, for example in the US.

    Channas are often more adaptable.

  • @viperBSG i don't think the goonch will be much of a problem to any ecosystem. banning it will keep these incredible fish away from fish enthusiasts like myself. that's what happened to snakeheads.

  • @zaracki92 Thank God it happened to the Snakehead. When the Goonch gets big enough it can and will attack people. These fish belong in there own enviroment.Theres no problem with responcible owners. but with more and more ppl being not responcible. leave these exotic types in there own enviroment.

  • @viperBSG ehehe, they are just commonly known as "maneaters" they dont really eat people. besides, i dont think the goonch have a suitable environment to grow to huge sizes here in the US. also, the bigger species could stay back there. i don't believe that any foreign species can destroy an ecosystem. it's just another story like "global warming"

  • Man eating Goonch good luck with that mate

  • @seage12

thanks, but meanwhile I think that I got the smaller "Bagarius bagarius". Well, I'll see if they get bigger ;-)

  • think it will eat shrimp, squid or mussel?

  • @ugnac

they don't like most frozen food for a long while. But I think it's possible to feed bigger ones with shrimps.

  • great cat, what can i feed one?

  • @ugnac

my Bagarius cf. bagarius are really insectivor. They like crickets, mealworms and so on...

But they eat frozen fish like stint, too.

  • Super cool specimen!! Great video, too!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Wow you got a goonch!! Pretty cool fish. What size tanks do you have planned?
