I lived for 12 years in France and I think it is tue that I became more creative due to that experience. You have to think on your feet a lot more when you are in another country. Also, you're free from the judgment and expectations of your "tribe". Lastly, you see new things and get new perspectives that help you think outside the box. I was already what you'd call a "ceative person" before my 12 years in Paris but I know that my time there made me more so.

There is also a relevance for the universities, not just businesses.. If universities take this research under account they can stimulate students to take a semester abroad for example and the outcome is that when this student graduates he/she will be more creative than a student from another university where going to study abroad is not practiced to such extent. This of course improves the reputation of the university.

All I know is that raising kids on the move and all over the globe may have provable positive effects on their creativity, but it's also crippling to their sense of belonging and ability to form lasting relationships. I have been to Holland many times from the USA and it is a fantastic country and culture. The people are so nice and intelligent. Yes, it seems to be true: when you go abroad, you have the oportunity to create a new identity in regards to others. You start from a new point and are in front of certain difficulties you don't have home. That wakes you up.
