@ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL I think, like most of us, she longs for love which makes everything in life brighter. And, as she says, she couldn't help it . . . the restlessness is in her nature. She wasn't complete yet, and until you are, you know you're ladking something but until you're fulfilled, many can't put a name to what it is they are lacking.
arghs!!! they cut out so much of the dialogue with Rochester and Jane outside!! it took me an hour and a half just to get to Timothy Dalton, don't you think you could have given me a little bit more!!! :)
why did they cut some parts in their dialogue? i love their first interaction, as it is in the book u.u ...he is way too handsome to be mr Rochester ñ´ñ
Actually while I adore this version, a lot of people forget the 1944 version with the immortal Orson Welles as Mr Rochester. After Timothy, he would rank my second favourite. :)
@TheWhiteFluffyBunny :Yeah, that's weird, Rochester has been yummy in every version and he's supposed to be ugly.. Every Jane has been way too pretty too!
I suspect it comes down to no more, perhaps, than a matter of ones age. I`m old enough to remember this when it was first broadcast on the BBC in the very early 1980`s.
I sat watching it in a grand old house, with an old friend, Sunday after Sunday evening. Drinking Port, and eating ham, watching this very same Jane Eyre.
creo que oque no me gusta de esta jane es que se ve demasiado saludable para representar a una chica que estuvo mal nutrida tanto de comida como de afecto. la version con william hurt es mas apegada a la realidad.
I think it's a bit weird, that after she met Mr. Rochester in the lane and she found Pilot when she'd come back to Thornfield, she just recognized it (Pilot), but then felt confused about the master coming home.
I have no idea why nobody mentions William Hurt. I know he's not "dashing" or handsome in an obvious manner (which is a plus), but he was a great Rochester. Perfect acting combined with an incredible voice. Though I've yet to finish this version and I've got a soft spot for a (admittedly modern) Stephens', I consider Hurt's to be THE classic one.
Found it - thank you! And Dalton is better looking than Tobey, IMHO, but I like Stephens portrayal best - it's the script's fault if you found him too 'modern'
You're welcome. IMHO Toby is better looking :-) And I never said I found him (or rather his version) too modern. Just modern. And yes, it's because of the script, which I still think is a very nice piece of work :-)
I'm sorry but I like Timothy Dalton a lot better as Rochester. Toby Stephens was way to flirty and I like Timothy Dalton's voice better. Plus I think Toby Stephens is is way too handsome.
I can't decide which Mr. Rochester I like best, Timothy Dalton or Toby Stephens. They're both amazing actors and super sexy, but whenever i read the book i picture Timothy as Rochester.
Oh please Stephens didn't do it for me as Edward, he wasn't tall enough, old enough, unattractive enough and this one is important, the voice, a voice like Dalton is very suitable for Edward Rochester.
i totally agree! Although timothy dalton is handsome.........there is just something about toby stephens that sets my hearts on fire! In my eyes, Toby is a perfect mr. Rochester!
@Rosamorrable I agree with you, Timothy is very good looking, but I preffer the gorgeous Toby Stephens in this roll, he has such a stern looking that you want to eat him alive, ha ha
He cracks me up almost every time he opens his mouth and in every close up.
He is so much THE Mr Rochester, gruff, brooding and mysterious. He often looks at Jane like a very hungry man looking at a pie and I would not trust him for anything :-)
@shelbieface Ah, imo Timothy Dalton beats anyone and anything, both as Rochester and Heathcliff (never mind the WH-version is a little skewed). And he's the hottest Bond as well. Great talent in that man, and the way he looks... perfectly fits such a haunted character.
@rchkane Keep in mind that "Wide Sargasso Sea" isn't cannon Jane Eyre, but a seperate entity from the original story and characters- including Bertha Rochester.
Pity that grace poole's presence and the laughter didn't occur simultaneously, not even once, before the truth was revealed after the marriage attempt. That would have saved many misunderstandings for Jane...
I love the way TD has a bit of a growl in his voice...like there is a beast within only looking to be tamed.
I did appreciate this first encounter more in the 2006 version because there was almost an instant connection. I am loving this version so far though because of its adherence to the book.
I watched this version and loved it ! I craved for more Mr Rochester so I read the novel. Oh, the story was so beautiful. I got hooked. I love when he called her Janet. Timothy Dalton is the best Mr Rochester.
I thought it was only movie clips, but it's the WHOLE movie? I'm so excited, I think I'll pause it and go pop me some popcorn! Be right back..............!

The most accurate, well played Mr. Rochester was done by Orson Welles. Timothy Dalton is sexy second.
