@TMSreptiles i recommend lab blocks like oxbow ,mazuri things like that but i feed a homemade rat soft mix :) go look at the rat fan club.com and they have the recipe its the best diet for rats in my opinion :)
im gonna buy my first rat in a few days....nice idea with the bucke for a nest/bed area, but is tehre anything toxic in the material that could harm the rat if it chewd on the bucket? anyone plz reply cause i need to know asap
@scotty900000 No there isn't anything toxic for them to chew on. I bought a cage with a plactic wheel in it that they hate, so i flipped it upside down and cut a hole for them to hide in it. Homemade toys and hidey holes are great for rats(:
Seed mixes from the petstore do NOT make good diets for rats AT ALL. I do specialize in rat diets and would like to eduacte u on them. Email me if you want your rats to live a longer healthier life.
Petstores sell blocks too. It's really hard to find a good diet for rats, either a homemade mix, dog food supplement, or blocks. And most blocks are horrible. x3 I'm going to feed my rats Harlan Teklad.
i use the bottom of boxes i cut them out and put them ontop of the wires, its cheaper and does the same job, but thankz 4 the advise. i had just cleaned there cage so thats why it wasnt there in the vid. lol
How do you litter train rats? I have 2, and because one peed everywhere, I had to put them in a cage with less floors. My other one is litter trained (I dont know how that happened) but the other isnt. Once I figure it out, i'll put them back in the big one
Glad you asked. The fist thing to do is get a area you see they use most often. place something down their to indecate thats were they should go. now the rest is pure devotion and patience..everytime you see a dropping pick it up and place it in that certain spot you chose. Do this and over time you'll notice thats were they'll always go to, to use the restroom.=] hope i helped. ask if you got any more questions for me.
Well, what if I change cages? How does it know where to poop? Do I just place the pan they've been using the whole time? thanks for the advice, by the way
sorry for the late reply, i havnt been on laitly. anyways if you change cages just place it in about the same way the other one was placed in the old cage. like if it was on the bottom right place it in the bottom right of the new one, make shure when swiching to a new cage they have a few things that have their scent on it, so they will know its a safe place and its theirs. just ask if u need anything else.
I bout two cages at seperate times and combined them to creat this single one.
The first one was around the price range of $70-$90...The other one was around $30-$40 haha so it wasnt to cheap haha.
I dont think getting a cage that size should coast that amount so if your thinkin bout gettin a cage around that size i would consider making one..i never did it because im not that creative haha but you never know maybe you could pull it off.
Your so creative

You should go to the dollar store and get vinyl place-mats to put on the wire. its bad for their feet. That's what I use on mine [:
