  • Hi maxproud ;) Which pre-amp did you install? ebay-china-low-cost? thanx.

  • @holyfiregermany No this preamp was "borrowed" from a used IBANEZ GSR-200 bass.

  • i love ur vids a lot

  • @NAxNixNaxBass Thanks, I try!

  • talkbass.com/forum/f57/stagg-mb300-718940/

  • @limes1989 Go for it. It's a pretty well made bass, despite the cheap price. I definitely wouldn't blame you adding more punch to it. I did keep the 'humbucking' pickup that came with it. The response was good after I put a preamp in the bass.

  • @maxproud Do you prefer the P-Bass neck style? Or would you try out the J-Bass style, slimmer neck?

  • @maxproud you`re right, the neck on this bass is mm-like, quite wide. I Prefer J-style necks, like on IBANEZ Roadstar`s II RG6xx basses and fender/Squier Jazz Basses - very comfortable to play for me...

  • A few years back, I bought myself a precision bass copy for $180+gigbag. it's m main bass out of all 4 i have at home. It feels and sounds like a pbass no doubt. When i got to try a real pbass (squier and fender std versions) they were both good no doubt, true p bass sound. But the neck on the fender, to me, felt slimmer than my copy. And the body looked slimmer too compared to my copy. but overall, i'd get either or as a next bass.

  • @glenmatlock94 Precisely why I made this video. There are so many well made, inexpensive, reproductions out there! You agree?

  • Hi!

I can get new Stagg MB300 and used (very good condition) OLP MM2 for almost equal price. Which one would you recommend as a better choice for a novice in bass playing?

    Thanks.

  • @DrSequoia If you're looking for something close to the actual "MUSICMAN" bass, you can't beat the OLP. It's basically the 'Stingray' without the preamp. The "STAGG" is cool. At certain stores it may even be cheaper priced, But I'd lean tiward the 'MM2.'

  • @maxproud

    Thank you for advice.

New MB300 in my country costs 175$ and I’ve found a private advertisement selling used (in very good condition) MM2 for 188$.

I guess I’ll go with MM2. Hope it will help me to learn bass with pleasure.

Also, maybe you would advise something else in this price range (up to 200$) worth taking a look at?

  • @DrSequoia In the range you presented. I would probably mention the IBANEZ GSR 200 or 205. They're not MUSICMAN copies, (if that makes a difference or not). But pound for pond they're the best inexpensive basses out right now! Unlike the STAGG and the OLP. They have two humbucking pickups, (low noise). And battery operated preamps inside them. Giving you a higher output for a distinctive sound. A bass you can grow into as you get better! At least that's my opinion.

  • @maxproud

    Thank you once again!

I didn't know about those Ibanez models suggested. Even though they're not MM copies still look pretty cool. I will definitely consider them more precisely.

  • @DrSequoia Дякуємо за увагу!

  • earl, what do you think about the ksd, the jazz looking one. i want one bad so i can put barts in it. your input my dear sir.

  • @bassstudent4life Nice bass. I've played it only once. It would fit you well.

  • @DREWisCool97 Not bad. The humbucking pickup brought out a good sound.

  • Hey, nice video. With regards to cheaper basses, I play a Wesfield B1000, Westfield are a scottish manufacturer I believe. I haven't had too much experience playing too many basses but this Westfield sounds just fine, it cost me only £90 which is very good, I've had it for about 3 years now and the only issue I had was with the jack input socket which was very simply fixed.

Still, I am am tempted to go for something a little higher end than what I currently own, maybe a Squier.....

  • @thewrestlebox 'Saw a video on that 'Westfield.' 'Pretty standard, good bass. So are most Squier's. I think the Squier would do you well!

  • @maxproud Yeah they are great basses. Just out of curiosity, what is it about SX basses you like so much? Many experienced players dont hold those cheaper basses in high regards unfortunately, and you appear very experienced. I visited their website after I saw a few of your video's and they look pretty great, and are a nice price too. Im from England and havent come across any here.....

  • @thewrestlebox Well, the point was, as in many of my videos, to find inexpensive instruments that are good quality. The great sounding high-end basses out there are often out of the reach of most buyers, financially. The "SX" line are a great alternative. Plus there cheap enough that you can make improvements on them. The expense of which often balances out well. Buying an "SX" bass, then buying and adding a preamp, can give you a high-end sound bass without paying "an arm and a leg!"

  • Yeah I like that Teena Maire joint too. We have similar tastes. I have SX 75 Jazz copy, OLP MM 5 copy. Carlo Robelli 8 string, Brubaker Brute. A franken bass made by Fatdawg in CA, has Bartolini MM pickup amd preamp, And a Geddy Lee Jazz. Prices paid from $139 to $750.00 All of these are very giggable basses. I have made money with all but the Brute and the franken bass.

  • @phillybass101 How's that "Brute" Brubaker? I've been hearing about that 'axe' recently. I like and easy neck action, and a light weight bass. Would you recommend it?

  • No more sound at 3:00

  • @ReggattaDeBlanc No sound? I checked. It seems ok. Is it not loud enough, maybe? Sorry, forgive me if you're having trouble hearing!

  • Hey man I bought this bass like about 3 months ago and it is very worth while!!

I was seriously surprised by the fact the humbucker pickup doesnt interfere with PA system that I have hooked up.

Works great with my pedal also,

but I would wish the frets wouldnt buzz as often and to answer your question I have compared it to the big bad bass and i prefer the cheaper one, simply because yeah its cheap but they tend to last longer :))

  • thies is couhlged a stagg xD

  • ...that feels so comfortable and well made. So, I guess it's all in what you're comfortable with having: Plenty of cheaper basses, or a few high end basses that feel and play fantastically. I don't think you'd regret buying one. I myself have a Sterling Ray 34. Still, being a mid range bass, feels nicer than plenty of bottom end basses I've played. HOWEVER, I do find myself picking up my brothers SX from time to time!

  • @NicoNegron Thanks for the feedback.

  • I think it's all in what you like, man. You seem like you get A LOT out of these low end basses. I remember when my brother bought his first SX. I thought that it would be a poor instrument because of the price, but when he first unboxed it I was immediately impressed by the feel, and even the tone of the stock pickups. However, compared to more expensive instruments, lower end instruments just feel like they're missing something. Take a Spector bass for example. I've never played anything...

  • Can this be found with a jazz bass configuration?

  • @TheBallTicklers Not that I know of. "STAGG" has Jazz Bass copies, but none have the humbucking pickup.

  • Nice? I have one of these bases in black with Wilkinson humbacker replacement! Amazing bass for it`s price, I might add! Not a MM, but still good! Dear Dr.Maxx, how do you install active preamp on these bass? Is it become to sounds more MM-like ? Please, contact me on emaillll ninja@dnepr.com, and tell more about mod, I`am very interested in it! Sorry about my bad english, though.

  • @limes1989 Дякуємо за увагу мій канал! Я не сильний в електроніці. Я фахівець в музичному магазині установки передпідсилювачів.

  • Thank dr.maxxx ursa and the new series better than the previous series? this is my fourth guitar sx purchased this year

  • hello DR.maxxx you're fine, I'm trying to bend the new ursa Information SX series ursa a RN1 White , a friend brought to Miami, and is selling what you say about this new series and better than the old school series, I am right about buy this down today.

  • @jorgesxbass Espero que o satisfaça. Obrigado por se comunicar comigo.

  • Having played in a long series of cover bands, I can tell you that as long as you play your parts well you can use whatever gear you want.

Per a thread on talkbass period com:

"Never heard a negative word about it (using cheap basses). Never expect to. The snobs are usually the ones hanging out here and on other forums. Real musicians are always happy to hear an instrument sound good - and they judge it on the sound. The audience certainly doesn't care...."

  • @zonabass I quite agree! Thanks a million!

  • I think it's called the maxproud channel cause you show maximum pride in your enjoyment of bass playing...

and now I've got the bug to buy another bass...that model Stagg would be a good compliment to my P basses...

  • @zonabass Haha! Never thought of it like that. Cool. And thank you!

  • Earl, hows the action on the stagg? I'm thinking about purchasing one.

  • @dioramapro A relatively low action on the MB300-N. And thanks for the subscription.

  • Nice video sorry i couldnt get the Jaguar bass special vid up ive hadnt had much time lately,.

  • @TheJohndeer98 Tack så mycket!

  • @maxproud I dont speak Swedish but i do speak German. lol but no prob

  • @TheJohndeer98 Dude, I must of got you mixed up with someone else! Sorry! Some of my bass fans are in other countries. I have to use GOOGLE TRANSLATOR sometimes!

  • Maxxx I thank you also purchase this low, because the have more to sell sx stingray. you saw my photo with the sx bass, I sent for you?

  • @jorgesxbass Não, desculpe. Eu não recebi uma foto de você com seu baixo.

  • congratulations MAXXXX

great sound, I wonder what you used this pre amp bass Stagg?

  • @jorgesxbass I owned a YAMAHA BB 415 5string bass. And I was not too fond of it. It was a little too bulky and heavy. I had the preamp taken out of that bass and put it into STAGG. The results were pretty nice!!

  • Hey Maxproud, I dig you video... I think I agree... I´m an amateur too, and cant ear any big diference in playing boutique expensive basses, bytheway...I refuse to pay high amount of money for any kind of instrument, I´m not rich, you know...and I´m very happy with my SX jb, I ´d rather put more money in music books, cd and stuff like that that have a very sofisticated rig... It´s all in your hands once Jaco said,,,peace

  • @vinnie3 Peace to you, bro. And thanks.

  • My preference falls between you and your friend. To me, there's a perceivable difference between a $275 bass and a $975 bass.....but much over a thousand is overkill for my money. If you haven't already, check out the MusicMan SUB. USA built quality, and the classic MusicMan 2-band eq pre-amp sound for between $400-$500. Disco heaven!

  • @itchyvinyl It's terrible how overpriced especially alot of custom basses are! Scandalous!

  • So, your name is Earl. They should name a TV show with that name. It might last a few seasons.

  • @JoeDixon Ok? Thanks.

  • Hey. What's going on Earl? Nice reviews. I recently purchased one of the basses you reviewed. I had not picked up a bass in 25 yrs. I'm from Mich. also. Do you gig a lot in The Mich. area? Where? Do you teach anywhere? Hope I'm not being too personal, If i am sorry about that. I just never hear you mention it.

  • @oleskoolable I ry to gig with my band BODDUM LYNE. We haven't gigged much. But we try, mostly in the southeastern part of Michigan. I assume I could teach. But I know I don't have the patience for it right now. Thanks for asking.

  • Earl (maxproud) youve got to be my favorite bass reviewer if not one of my favorites, you just seem to find some of the most inexpensive and unknown basses and show us that you dont need spend to much money for tight sounds, THANKS DUDE!

  • @tanbo15 You're very welcome. I appreciate the love! If you're looking for even more inexpensive, and exotic basses? Check my buddy, '11coopbass.' He right here on YOUTUBE. He gets basses that I've never heard of,

and are quite nice and inexpensive. Check him out.

  • Yeap! Maxproud is a cool name!

  • @womanlybassplayer Thanks for the compliment!

  • When I saw one of your videos for the first time I thought your name was Max Proud. I was thinking "wow that is the coolest name ever" haha

  • @Orangemongoose1 Rolls off the tongue pretty nicely doesn't it? It's a greatmoniker.

  • Lol I made the mistake of calling Earl by the name of Max a few times, sorry man, haha. Just seemed natural, but now i know better. great videos Earl, keep 'em coming.

  • @SpagsJippy No problem, please. I never meant for anyone to feel I don't like the (maxproud) moniker! You can call me 'maxproud' anytime!

  • it sounds more like jazz bass

  • @ChiHoonKIm Really. I'll take your word for it!

  • haha, you can call it a stingray on camera. Neither Ernie Ball nor Stagg will sue you =P

  • @Sleeves04 You sure? I hope you're right! LOL.

  • Max Proud is a bad ass stage name for a funky ass bassist!

The well known bass is the EB Music man? Or is it called Stingray? I've been out of the loop for a bit!

  • @MPSecare I'm well aware of the "well known" bass. I didn't want to mention any other brand-names because of "legal concerns."

  • @maxproud Oh no I was asking a question, I really don't remember what the names were!

  • @MPSecare You handle a Balisong pretty well! I never had he patience to learn to handle that knife!

  • Where can i purchase a STAGG bass?

  • first comment yay
