Thank you so much for this video! I knew I needed to clean out my fan in my laptop but so afraid of breaking it.... this thing is my baby XD But I did everything you said to do and it's all clean and still working great and I can keep it maintained too! My fan had some huge dust/lint balls all up inside of it :)
I have this laptop and it's crap. Wireless printer doesn't work, USB ports stopped detecting external devices, etc. I also dropped it one time and now the screen doesn't close and is falling apart. I will be getting a new laptop in the next few days (not HP).
@GATOR187100 if my memory is right I beleave there is a small ribbon that gos from the motherboard to the circuit board with the power light, charge light, harddrive light, microphonejack, and headphone jack. Yep, maybe that's it. All that is on its on like inch and a half board with a ribbon connection. Let me know what you figure out and I help more if I can.
thanks for tutorial.i have a question if anyone can help. i could not tell where the green tab that was removed was suppost to be installed and what it is for. front part of comp is not working (headphone jack, lights etc. any help would be nice. started and had to finish at later point as i forgot were i removed it (position) duuhhhh.;) i know one smart non forgetting forgiving soul will help. thanks in advance
I just record that video on my big bro's pc and did exactly the same as this BOSS and guess whats the result!!!! Dust, dust, dust stuck in the vans (reason why my hp was super heated)! I remove it and RESULT NO MORE HEATED NO MORE NOISE AND PERFORMANCE i can play hours now non-stop! MAN U ROCK NO HOMO BIG LOVE!
used this today to swap out my old fan after it stopped working/caused overheating, but it turned out that i just had a sweaters worth of lint surrounding the fan and heat sink. after pulling out that kind of lint, i just put it all back together and boom the fan works!
if your g60 is over heating or your fan has stopped working, this is probably your problem too. compressed air doesnt cut it. :(
@chizzynineteen thanks so much for quick response. i will give that a look. i just thought that the green tab @ 4min 36 sec into vid was it as its not installed lol and not clear how it came out. i will check your fix knowledge and let you know thank you soooo much. have a great day sir

Thanks for your video helped a lot. We can add the comment that you must maintain the detail of static electricity to disarm this type of electronic circuit boards
@Durnald Hey, I have to clean mine as-well. from watching this i'm wondering if its possible to do this by just removing the black back plate, the HDD and the network card? or is it necessary to take the LCD screen off to get the back plate to come off?
this is an annoying case, all my other laptops (2 older pavillions and one brand new pavillion) have a separate piece that covers the fans for easy access.
@s2gz The only extra step I took in this video that won't NEED to be done is when I took the processor out. In order to get inside the heat sync, everything must come off. Best of luck
I did this exact procedure, and then put the machine back together, now the monitor doesn't respond at all! I've taken this thing apart maybe 8 times and checked the cables with no avail, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. the VGA connector works fine, and monitors usually don't just go out like that.
i have a problem with this laptop and before i can go into cleaning it i just would like to know what the problem is..you see my laptop worked fine then i left it somewhere for a bit to sit for not even 10mins i come back and the laptop is hot then it suddenly turns off..so i wait for a goo hour to let it cool off plug in my ac charger then turn it on..i comes on for a bit loads then turns off by itself. then 30mins later i try it again and all i get is the thunder bolt flash icon flashing 3time
I did all of the steps and cleaned the fan. I am fairly certain I didnt break anything while doin g it either. However when I put it all back together it wont turn on anymore. The one thing I think it could be is the power ribbon is messed up. Maybe I am doing it wrong but I cant get the black clip, that goes over the power ribbon to keep it in place, to click in and hold the blue ribbon in place. Any suggestions please?
@ToughCanadian I had this problem once, it turned out to be I didn't 'lock' the prossessor in. All I had to do was turn the lock to 'lock'. As far as the power button ribbon gos, we've had some problems there too.. All I can tell you is the black part isn't suppose to come off. It switches up and down like a light switch, down being locked... Prolly not alot of help, check the prossessor lock, I posted a manual in the description. Best of luck hope it works
@ToughCanadian I had this same exact problem about a week ago. After several days of disassembling again and again to check out the wires and the inverter, it turns out that the ribbon cable was loose because the black clip wasn't inserted properly. If you can move the black clip up and down like a switch, then you inserted it wrong. Switch it to the other side and make sure it doesn't move when it's connected.
@Durnald Could you do the same video but with a better video camera sometime in the near future? Also, a better "top-down" angle, so we can see everything better, and without music... Thanks.
@MayoPie Everything except the RAM... the HDD and WiFi will hold the motherboard to the case when you try to get it off if you don't remove them. There is a manua lin the description up there. Make note of screw sizes as you take them out. Good luck
@PERSONTHATISCLEVER For Laptops, usually no. With laptops, you are limited with the power supply and compatibility of parts they designed the laptop with. If you want to play games, a better CPU will not dramatically help you play a game. Instead, invest in a new laptop or desktop computer.
@kkhkjkl Sorry for the delay, I've been moving... Yes, everything except the one lock screw on the prossessor at the very end of the video. You might want to try a high power vacume and air hose first.
Dang I wish I would have found this video an hour earlier instead I had to look for my elusive parts manual but I replaced my fan a part had actually broken off of it but everything is good now a piece of advice for anyone who is going to try this organize your screws very well cause half of my time was spent trying to figure out where the screws went back in.
UGH! I've had the fan break on my G60 TWICE now. This time I'm thinking it may just be build up but I can't afford to have the fan replaced right now. But if I break this thing, I'm screwed. Thanks for the video man.
I also have a G series laptop, and I notice it only overheats when I sit it on certain surfaces. Like the arm of the sofa for example, it will nearly burn my hand if I touch the bottom of it after it's been sitting there long enough. I would guess that I'm blocking off an important ventilation section, even though I let the left side hang off the edge to keep from blocking the side and bottom ventilation near the fan area. It will be so hot you can fully cook an egg on the bottom of it.
@Kevvo2011 I am a technician. Many HP models like G60 have an air INTAKE system which isn't powerful enough to cool the notebook. If you want it to live long NEVER put it on soft bendable cloth-like material, instead always make sure you leave the INTAKE VENTS vents underneath completely exposed, even prop it up on rectangular pencil-sized pieces of wood or use cooling pad with large central fan when using it, and clean vents with compressed air once in a while
@dharmanova Sometimes it's difficult because if I sit it on something like a book to keep it elevated there's the risk of it sliding off and smashing to the floor. I do have to figure out a better solution, because I really like my computer and want it to last as long as possible.
@Kevvo2011 Whatever works best for you and your laptiop, I guess... :-)
I use 4 rectangular matchbox-sized rubber erasers for improvised "legs" and attach them with pre-glued square pieces of velcro tape whenever I have to use my G 60 on futon or couch. It heats up much less that way.
The word "laptop" is so misleading, as notebooks aren't really meant for one's lap and the less it is moved around while powered on, - the longer its hard drive will live...
hey mate ive the same laptop..ive just opened it aparts and cleaned the heatsink as the laptop was getting really hot..now after that the laptop still with the fan on maximum speed and the air being blew is cool..but ive got one of those programs that shows the temperature..and it is working over 90C im sure the heatsing is in contact with the cpu ive putted new paste on it not to much just as recomended..bios is updated just formatted windows..does anyone know what else could be causing it?
@justin360101 I think ours is grey... Is it attached to the Caps lock light?? If so, alot of us has had problems with that one melting together :( What I did was just pulled all the plastic off and pushed it back onto the post. The on I am speaking of is a caps light and the microphone wires.
help! i did this once and it was fine, then i did it again and the touch pad wasn't connected properly. when i fixed that and put it back together, i couldn't get the battery back in! i just took it apart again and checked everything and i still can't get it back in :(
@Thepoliticman CAUSE THE FAN IS RETARDED THE WAY IT OPERATE'S SOME TIME'S IT'S JUST ODD I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT COMPUTER'S AND MY ANGER IS CAUSE I THINK SOMEONE HAS BEEN HACKING MY G60 JUST HP SUCK'S GOOGLE TV IS THE FUTURE
Simply amazing dude it took me a lil while to get it apart but after that knew exactly what to do All i have to do is put it back together everything is working awesomely thanks this was a big help!!
@Chewbiful its easy to put back together.... all screws are the same size (except HDD screws and the battery area screws) and a few special areas.... so in other words just screw all the screws back! :)
On the big silver case covering the hardware inside the pc on the bottom of it above the touch pad a little the left is a small bolt how do I remove it
@Anymajordude5 I do enjoy the corrective criticism. Haveing said that, this was recorded with a cell phone and is being played at x1.6 speed. Combine that with my lack of film school and you get this video.
@Anymajordude5 Grammar control for your post is out the window.....Shut the mouth. Thanks for the insight Durnald. Didn't want to totally break it down, but after watching your video, realized I had to. Thanks a bunch.
Well there were a few negative comments about this laptop. I can say that the only issue I've come across with the computer is that the screen is pretty pricey. Other than that, I haven't found any issues. I Beta tested Win 7 Ultimate x86 and x64 on this laptop the summer before Win 7 was released so I can vouch and say the software compatibility is great compared to many others.
@stguerrero92 I like this PC too. If I had a complaint it would be thay they should have had the air intake come up through where the left speaker is.Then you could set the laptop on your lap, arm of sofa, lay in bed with it, ect. Other than the easily blocked cooling system it's cool.
Love this laptop. Had mine for a year & 8 months with no issues except for Vista. Got ride of Vista and installed Win 7 Ultimate. Use my G60-235DX for work & entertainment so I'm on it all the time. Easy to carry with my Targus backpack. Thanks HP.
@Durnald I took mine apart 2 more times, the 1st time I didn't have enough screws and the 2nd time I had just enough. lol not sure why but like I said before if its missing a few and its working, then it didn't need em.
DON'T TAKE APART GRAB VACUUM HOSE PART ,DUST OFF , MASKING TAPE IF HOSE DOES NOT FIT OVER VENT USE TAPE LOSE UP THE DUST WITH CAN AIR THEN SUCK THE HECK OUT OF IT MIGHT BE FASTER TRY THAT OR TAKE RISK

So how exactly are you supposed to take out the microphone wire..? Its the grey one around 4:34 I kinda just yanked it out.. i thought thats what your suppose to do. Any way it wont go back in. Im kinda bummed.. Any help please? I really enjoy my microphone use.
Thank you for this! I spilled pop on the keyboard and have terribly sticky keys. Thanks to the first 5 seconds of this video I now know I can replace it with ease. Thanks Again
I HAVE A G60 HP LAPTOP FOR SALE ON EBAY REAL CHEAP STARTING AT 300 JUST TYPE IN 250712282644 IN THE SEARCH ITS IN GREAT CONDITION AND WORKS GREAT... TRY YOUR LUCK GREAT COMPUTER
All I can say is Well demonstrated. I follow the video all the way through and took out every screw. My G60-235DX is working better now.... I still have 4 screws that were supposed to go inside of it .. oh well its working so thank you haha.
@stguerrero92 I've teken it apart a few times, this was like the 4th or something. I've always had extra screws, differant sizes each time lol... Also, after getting it aback together, it wouldn't work. I had to take it right back apart. When I put the prosessor back in I didn't lock the "lock". Thank you for your compliment
thank you going to do this on saturday..i repair lots of PC's but laptops new to me, the new motherboard just come through the post this shall be interesting they look so flimsy all the plastic once apart..going to have this video on my netbook on a special work table next to me i really needed this thnx :D
@Breadinator10000 I think that is the wire the controls the "open and shut" switch on the screen axle.... Not sure yet.
It's suppose to plug in with the caps lock light on a 4 pin plug but doesn't on mine because while it was over heating it got hot enough to melt that plug to it's self. So, I peeled the plastic plug part off and plug into the post now.
To see the" Grey wire ? HP G60 " search that phrase, I can't post a link here.

Chewbiful 1 year ago
@Chewbiful its easy to put back together.... all screws are the same size (except HDD screws and the battery area screws) and a few special areas.... so in other words just screw all the screws back! :)

@Anymajordude5 I do enjoy the corrective criticism. Haveing said that, this was recorded with a cell phone and is being played at x1.6 speed. Combine that with my lack of film school and you get this video.

Well there were a few negative comments about this laptop. I can say that the only issue I've come across with the computer is that the screen is pretty pricey. Other than that, I haven't found any issues. I Beta tested Win 7 Ultimate x86 and x64 on this laptop the summer before Win 7 was released so I can vouch and say the software compatibility is great compared to many others.
stguerrero92 1 year ago

All I can say is Well demonstrated. I follow the video all the way through and took out every screw. My G60-235DX is working better now.... I still have 4 screws that were supposed to go inside of it .. oh well its working so thank you haha.
stguerrero92 1 year ago 3
@stguerrero92 I've teken it apart a few times, this was like the 4th or something. I've always had extra screws, differant sizes each time lol... Also, after getting it aback together, it wouldn't work. I had to take it right back apart. When I put the prosessor back in I didn't lock the "lock". Thank you for your compliment
Durnald 1 year ago
@stguerrero92 lol I had 4 screws left over tooo

at 4:37 you seemed to pull out a cord. Which cord was it and how did you pull it out.
Breadinator10000 1 year ago
@Breadinator10000 I think that is the wire the controls the "open and shut" switch on the screen axle.... Not sure yet.
It's suppose to plug in with the caps lock light on a 4 pin plug but doesn't on mine because while it was over heating it got hot enough to melt that plug to it's self. So, I peeled the plastic plug part off and plug into the post now.
To see the" Grey wire ? HP G60 " search that phrase, I can't post a link here.
Durnald 1 year ago
@Breadinator10000 dave01945 said it is a microphone wire.
