CDBPDX, thank you so much for uploading all this amazing music, I've been looking for stuff like this all night and finally found your goldmine, thanks again for the inspiration and smiles you have brought me.
The other 3 records are: N 97 China Night 1204519 Hill of Pure Heart 2205998 N 92 Dreamy Tokyo 1210039 Star of Love 2210045 N 87 Apple Song 1209692 Light Breeze 2209693
Looks to me like the first digit is the "side" and the last 6 are the "matrix" number you were mentioning. Label does say Eagle, and has a CPO enclosed by a diamond shaped border, and at the bottom of the label, says "Made in Occupied Japan"
I have a record with the same music, but instead of it being published by "Columbia", It's published by "EAGLE", and is labeled "Made in Occupied Japan". Mine is one of a four part album labeled "Recorded For 8TH ARMY EXCHANGE" and lists the 8 songs:
Apple Song
Light Breeze
China Night
Hill of Pure Heart
Madame Butterfly of Nagasaki
My Dear Bolero
Dreamy Tokyo
Star of Love
I have the complete album. I'm guessing yours are later re-releases of mine. Info is scarce.
@richfiles if this one is labeled 1939 and yours are marked occupied japan than the 1939 record would be older. "made in occupied japan" refers to the allied occupation after the end of WWII until the very early 50's
This is the story of Mdme. Butterfly of Nagasaki who in the Puccini opera awaits her American lover by whom she has a child, but instead he comes for the child with an American wife. Part of the Puccini opera music is in the song.
My relative is from Japan, so he can read, write and speak Japanese. Some Japanese characters can be read several ways, and since he didn't hear the recording, the word might be wrong, but I changed it to my way of hearing if I thought it was wrong.
I think the Japanese "o Cho-san" suggests Madam Butterfly so a better translation of the title is Madam Butterfly of Nagasaki. Thanks for sharing it with us. After "Shina no Yoru" this is my favourite song by Watanbe Hamako.
The title is "Butterfly of Nagasaki", but I can't get the name of the singer since I can't read the second letter. It will be better if you post any HQ photo of the label somewhere.
years later, americans would thrown an atomic bomb in Nagasaki...

@MusicDudeRock
About 1/3 of my postings get notices there are copyright holders. There was none for this posting. That's all I know for certain.

I made a mistake in the first posting. The second line of the verse should be yanoji, not yonoji.
Nagasaki Nagasaki minato no machi yo
Minato soyo soyo minami kaze
Kaze ni tayori ga nai yue ni
Itoshi kawaii ade sugata
Oki wo nagamete senobi suru
Dare wo matsu no ka ochosan
