  • I agree with the comment that this is one of the great undiscovered tracks of all time--and it shows the incredible versatility and power of her voice.

  • nobuo uematsu's music for the macalania woods in ff10 and also esto gaza in ff9 must have both been inspired by this genius arrangement of richard carpenter which in turn seems inspired by satie

  • i thought your the one who performed it that's why when i read that it was ned blah blah presentation i exited......you shouldn't put your name on it

  • @abcdefghijklmnop0385 “You’re” is always a contraction of “you are.” If you’ve written “you’re,” try substituting “you are.” If it doesn’t work, the word you want is “your.” Your writing will improve if you’re careful about this.

Just trying to help improve the world one contraction at a time!

The texting generation.. A HOLE NU LANGIDGE N stuff. OMG..

    LOVE The VID..

  • Great - even after all these years!

  • Always loved this track - stunning photography

  • such a magical song, so mysterious and haunting! very moving.

  • Gorgeous visuals in perfect synchronicity with this gorgeous song. So melancholy, haunting, so uplifting. Thanks for all these wonderful tracks.

I program my computer alarm to awaken me to this song before the sun rises. There in the darkness of pre-dawn I come to consciousness to that singular voice that permeates that darkness, that salutory voice that freezes time.

  • "No one [sees] a quiet mountain bird"

  • What a discovery !! Didn't know this song from Karen, think it's one of her best ... tears in my eyes... This beautifull video is really made from the heart! Thanks Ned! :-)

  • This will always and forever be my favorite Carpenters track. I can sit and literally listen to it for hours, letting its subtle message touch me deeply. When I hear it, I often think of my dog, Penny, whom we found on a warm fall day in 2000. On a winter night ten years and four months later, she died, her own Green September burning away. I miss you, Penny, and you will always be in my heart as this song plays in my ears.

R.I.P Penny and, of course, Karen.

  • How fleeting life is. I don't think one starts to realize this until one is about 40. I am now 50, and time (when one can slow down enough to appreciate it) seems extremely precious, with loved ones we've known our whole lives passing on, and the general demise of this country'a moral & ethical values. Top it off with ever changing e-crap/I-phone, "let's make life faster" technologies, and I LONG for days gone by.

  • Love the song Love the video thanks. But it is weird to see image of the moon everytime she sings noon.

  • Not too many singers - if any - can sing the line "Led to December's frozen ground" the way Karen does - and all in one breath!

  • Thank you so much for the beautiful video. I have loved this since the 1970's and each September and Fall I listen to the haunting melody. Thank you so much for the beautiful pictures and the amazing work that you performed for this video.

    Thank You Thank You

  • Another beautiful song sung by Miss Carpenter. In my opinion, all of their earlier songs are worthier of being called "Hits."

  • Beautiful track on side 2 of the Carpenters' CLOSE TO YOU album. One of my favorites.

  • Thank you, Ned. A beautiful tribute to a beautiful track.

  • Beautiful pictures, a voice of perfection in Karen, Damn it Ned, you made me cry again. One of my favorites of the Carpenters' lesser known tunes. Thanks

  • Thank -you, Mr. Nickerson for this beautiful production. Zero dislikes speaks volumes. My father is experiencing medical problems, and has slowed down drastically. The seasons are yet again changing, and life feels like a set of diminishing returns. Can't bring back the green Septembers. I'm the last of my family (no wife/kids), so it's going to get brutal in the loneliness dept. My only hope is Christ.

  • @greenwich1754 I know how you feel. Keep the faith, I hope everything will be OK for you

  • My favorite song of life .

  • *sigh* Just beautiful.

  • After hearing your new post I had to hear this song again....

  • I cannot tell you how great this video is Ned. This song is truly one of the great "undiscovered" tracks of all-time. It's obvious that you too love the song to take the time you did to produce this clip. There isn't a person with a pulse that would not appreciate what you've done here--to show God and all His beauty, perfectly woven in with the beautiful Carpenters song featuring an amazing vocal performance by Karen.

Kudos to you Sir with deepest thanks!

  • @BroncosWn Thank you for your kind comments. This is one of my favorite Carpenter tracks, and also, one of my favorite videos that I have created for their music.

  • I remember The Carpenters hitting the inner city all black radio station in Cleveland. I was shocked that so many ghetto folks were digging this musical team. I didn't hear one deragatory word against them, not even from the Panthers. Their soothing quality was so remarkable that they permeated the wall of racism for over three years. This song hit that station and I remember a young lady crying on her porch as it played. Never found out why. Richard and Karen reached us all.

  • Beautiful song! Beautiful video!

  • I love this song!!!!

    Carpenters are cool!!!!!

  • WOOOOOOOW SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL

  • This song/video = required hearing/viewing. Grandparents are dead; mom is dead; many I have known are dead. The world passes away and the lusts threrof. Eternity is what I'm looking for, and it ain't here!

  • @greenwich1754 You'll find it soon enough, my friend, and will be united with your loved ones once again. Be hopeful!

  • Takes me back to 1975. My family and my father's last months. . this song will always be my own memory of this time. RIP Dad....

  • Beautiful...

my Autumn always starts with this song.

  • awesome... thanks for posting this.

  • "You and I were born like the breaking day" is one of the (many) great moments in Carpenters recordings. There is also a rare recording of Karen singing this with her college choir.

  • @tennis219 do you have the recording?

  • @vaccavo yes, I have it on CD somewhere - but of course it's not anywhere near as good as the version that later appeared on the Close to You album

  • What a wonderful voice ! Karen will stay on my heart and on my soul forever. Each time I listen her it's like an angel who coming down especially for me.

  • Yes, I've listened several times...I have always loved their music, and this is one of their best....are you still staying in Fresno? Sue

  • This is one of those songs, arguably my favorite form the Carpenters, that I just want to scream from the mountain tops - "listen to this song, hear this song!" God I can't believe her voice here! Some gems will just never be uncovered, I guess.

  • Excellent!

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Your video has wonderful pictures. Excellent!

  • ... Beautiful...
